Want to learn how not to suck at writing? The is answer is very simple, keep your ideas in your head and don't release them because the moment that PUBLIC's eyes cast its inspecting gaze on your writing, it will be subjected to manyfold critique, some may say your work is phenomenal, others- you suck! It doesn't matter how well you think you are, your thoughts aren't projected on every living reader. Sometime, you sucking at writing might be what attracts your readers and sometimes, you being fairly good might be what repels them. So the moral is this, you can please some people sometime, but you can't please all the people all the time. DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?

I agree with the last part. No matter what people write, there will be haters who hate it. But, your initial point of keeping the ideas in the head and don't release them, I really have to disagree.

The most important part is not to stop publishing your story because of fear of hate, it's the ability to separate what's a valid criticism and what's blind hate. Thinking your writing is bad and not releasing the story won't help you improve, because no one will be able to see how you write and give you tips on how to improve. Thinking your writing is already great is also a bad thing to do, cause you'll just shut down any valid criticism thinking they're annoying and such.

Well, there are certain authors (like someone I know) who writes stories solely for the sake of it and not bothering to publish his works online. Reason is, he hates being critiqued (also had a low opinion of online readers), and his goal is to let out his ideas from his head, so he never released it.

Yes, but encouraging someone not to release their story just because of inevitable criticism is just... not good enough of a reason.

If the problem is not being able to take critiques, why not just avoid the comments? Disable notifications and publish it to the void. I've seen quite a few authors who refuse to interact with their readers. Being able to express oneself and share with others is pretty important. So I can't really agree with abandoning it on the basis of fear of critique.

Well, there are people who have their ways on how to 'help' someone else. Like the OP of this thread.

I mean, I myself won't recommend it. But, the truth about this hobby/passion needs to be said; writing online pop literature is a bed of nails. It isn't rosy as most new authors tend to think, and it's 0.5/10 chance a new writer's work would immediately be liked or get popular with the audience. 100/10 it would surely be panned for all the wrong reasons.

I also agree of not abandoning writing on the basis of fear of critique (and if possible, turn those off), though nowadays and with different platforms, critiques take many forms, like ratings, likes, reviews, and the more common comments. It sure is devastating for someone to receive negative feedback, though there are sites where you can't turn those off.

As Scribblehub is gaining traction with the online writers, it is getting popular where it is one of the two options (the other is RoyalRoad) for most new authors thinking where they would publish (and get their baptism by fire).

Don't stop posting your story! If you stop posting people can't see how great you are! If you quit, then no one will know. You are the best in your own way! It sounds corny, but I won't give up. You shouldn't either.

I've kept my ideas in my head for a loooong time. Not really sure if it was a lack of motivation or just a culmination of too many ideas that prevented me from starting to put any one thing to pen and paper. I seek to remedy that and my first story here on SH is my step towards that goal.

I'm more than willing to accept the criticism from readers so long as it is constructive. I actually encourage it. The more feedback I get on my writing, the more I can learn about weak points my writing may possess and I can work towards improvement.

I am a self-centered prick lol, criticisms of other people doesn't affect me much. I write what I want, I do what I want (as long as it is reasonable)

If people hated my work I'd make even more of an effort to make sure it gets in their face. If I only had one or two people hating on it, then meh. Whatever. They can always go find something more to their liking. Perhaps they're just not good wiv all de long words I use. So where's the thread teaching how to not suck at reading?

I suggest taking some skin implants. Supposedly it helps people develop a thick foreskin.

In my opinion, the solution is pretty straightforward. Use critical thinking. Don't just read what others criticize, but also take in the way they do it. If someone comes to my stuff kicking in the door, guns blazing, he or she shouldn't be surprised if he gets a bullet between the eyes.

Interact with your reader base the way they do with you, with every person on a personal level. I sent the fuck away plenty of rude bastards already, neither of them missed to give me a one star, but I don't have to tolerate the idiots either. Some people simply think that because I am an author, I owe them money or something coming at me with the attitude of a loan shark, acting some sort of thug or what not. Put them out to calm down.

About writing stuff, I can only give one advice: write something that says something meaningful. If everybody likes your story, that means you basically didn't say anything, just like social media. If you don't say jack shit, circle around every important stuff, and show the cute faces of newly born wild cats in some damn zoo, then nobody will complain as there is nothing contradictory in that.

Put down your feat and write, say what you think is right. If somebody hates what you write (there is always someone like that) and complains about it, it is a sign that you are doing something good, with some meaning behind it. I am not going to accept every bullshit that people throw around.

That's how I write at least.

Again these writers classified as good, suite only some, not all. Which is why diversity is a must. I've read many famous authors work before and they don't entertain me as much as some of the work i've read on Scribblehub, Royalroad, Webnovel and other online platforms. TO ALL THEIR OWN POND OF WATER TO SWIM IN just don't drown!

You're right, anyone who misspells a word, you must not heed their advice. For we are nor humans, only robots.
