How do you guys keep with with all the things happening in your world? I personally put everything in a single world file... now that file has grown too lenghty and chaotic to manage... characters, world settings, special items, trivia... i want some advice pls.

There are a couple tools I suggest.

World Anvil can be helpful. And another option, if you need to keep track of where, when things have happened in your past chapters there is a tool called Notebooklm.

But, it is AI. But. It does not generate your writing for you, it searches through your own material.

Wait, really?? There's a tool for managing a timeline for my story? That sounds awesome, will check it out. Also will this World Anvil help me keep and filter out information about the characters in my story? Also thank you >u<

World Anvil does have timeline stuff. Tons of options! I used it for a DND setting for a campaign I run.

Also yeah, notebooklm will do that. For example, if you give it files for 20 of your chapters. Then you ask it, "Can you tell me about all the times John has talked to Ben?" It will look through every chapter and pull that information for you.

Its essentially a research tool. Originally made for academic work. But works well for any sort of research/searching

For the bigger stories, I have so called "Trivia Excel" sheets. They carry everything truly noteworthy, that I might change or just generally fuck up by accident. Nothing for embarassing than for an author to forget the hair color of a side character they showed once before they became more relevant and thus changed it when they returned to the screen. Or characters suddenly being older or younger; that stuff that really isn't of any consequence, but that's also why those things aren't heavily anchored on your mind.

Not gonna lie, that sounds super practical.

Even as an certified AI hater, I have to admit that notebooklm is pretty useful. And it dosen't impede on human creativity. Its just a really really good tool.🤷‍♀️

To be honest, I don't really care about AI. AI counter rant incoming:
It's not even real AI. We have used algorithms for decades now. Look at Word - not just grammar correct, but Clippy. You remember Clippy, from, what, 30 years go?
Using an algorithm to correct spelling is a tale as old as time, but NOW people get their panties in a twist. As if you couldn't keep your text from being changed. I have to eyes; I can tell when something changes and keep it from changing. Not that hard.
Especially don't give a fuck on covers - and I do editorial design. I used to get paid for it as well, though it was a side gig and I didn't have the time for it later on. Basically, I don't see why I should be mad. If someone doesn't have the money, they won't actually commission me either way - or anyone else, for that matter. Be happy for people who can get an affordable option, why not? They don't sell their cover; it's about the book.
And in case they use it for the book: Those will never be as good as actual human text. Because it's not real intelligence.

Some this I agree with. Some of it I don't. Ive had this discussion too many times😅

I dont have the energy to summon a counter rant. Ill just say, youre perspective is valid.

That's as much energy I can muster up on the topic anyway.
Every time it comes up, I just end up feeling tired.
