It is still in the hands of the original people who made it, as far as I can tell. I looked it up yesterday when this came up with Tyrano. So it is not exactly a corpo-level leadership, but I could be wrong. I am not in their shadow cabal.

So I agree with @RepresentingAll_Pauls if they go down, it is on them. Especially with all the partnership programs they are running with publishers and Amazon.

That is why I don't believe their plea. If they are that flustered, then they have a serious spending issue on their hands.
WuxiaWorld also had original owner as the admin\owner for a long time, but then that guy dipped and WW turned into WN.

Yeah, I was there when it fell. Sad days.

But I can understand the decision behind it. I bet he is set for life now, good for him. But RR and WW's situation now is different. WW is doing "fine" in Kakao's hand, I guess, if they are still the ones running it.

As author and reader I don't really care how set that guy is. I care how good is writing and reading experience, and WW or WN provide shit experience.

I mean if I were to give a good faith argument for why they are pleading to their users to stop using ad-blockers could be to protect the Independent authors who pay for their advertising services.

But that's the only thing I can come up with.

My skeptical side is way stronger and it feels more like a weak attempt to maximize profits.

I don't know how big Not Yet Media Ltd and for all I know it's a small team working it. But there policies and choices smell of white collar bull crap.

As much as I dislike RR, and understand this isn't the situation where I should 'defend' them, but I don't want RR to go down. I understand that RR owners would rather shut down the site than pocket less money, it is what it is. What I know as well is that we keep losing writing sites, and not enough new ones appear. And as we know, competition is good, no competition is bad.
I agree with this. As much as I dislike RR, I don't want it to disappear as there aren’t a lot of good writing sites and even fewer well known ones.

Eh, I don't go to RoyalRoad. I tried once. Too much LitRPG, and characters that feel more like cardboard cutouts than actual human beings.

Worse, everyone just seems to be mad at each other all the time. I'm happy here. ;)
Thank God you told me this. I considered going to RR to get some more publicity a while back. Good thing you stopped me.

SH already has a lot of LitRPG, 1D waifu harems, and barely readable stories that made me want to watch an episode of Peppa Pig. But the community here is very fun, and every time I pop in, I have a ball.

I'd still cross-post if I were you. You just need to survive the initial wave of complainers in the first 1 or 2 months, then they slowly die off, and authentic feedback starts appearing.

I'll probably wait a few months until I have enough material worth cross-posting. Unfortunately, I'm a pretty slow writer/artist who sticks to the slow but traditional methods and gets distracted easily. Also, I'm still in the process of making SH my "main site."

I wouldn't want to see RR end, I do post my fiction there. But to think there is a threat of that for financial reasons is silly.

I refuse to believe RR is in any financial trouble whatsoever unless several of the owners have a dumpster truck sized coke habit. Between ads, user ads, and partnershisps, the site is raking in more revenue than most steam games and overhead can't be that high for a forum even if they store a lot of data.

I see all their user ads and have paid money to advertise there myself because it is literally the only way to get followers as a nobody, short of posting every living day and dying of exhaustion or making it to rising stars in their heavily tilted system.

I don’t want RR to fail because I don’t want RR users coming over to the SH forums.

Maybe I am wrong. You are very persuasive, and the fact you represent all Pauls adds tremendous weight to your words.

We are kinda like the borg, except we are far less intimidating and can bruise really easily.

We Pauls have a saying, "Resistance is futile... Useless, you had a really big stick." If a large stick is involved, then we pivot our saying to, "Resistance is negotiable."
