Ever write an entire chapter and then accidentally close the tab right as you're finishing the first draft, deleting all of your progress?

I did. Just now.
Yep, that is why I started to use Reedsy and Google Documents, and planning to use Campfire for my worldbuilding and characters. Almost have an existential crisis.

I hope it was at least a porn one, so I'll have something to look forward to when you eventually get back to it and it finds its way into my eyes. If not, tough luck.
It was, kind of, going to be porny?

Oooh, I haven't heard of Campfire before. Seems pretty interesting, but I feel like I could do much of it just using free tools.

Ugh, I forgot that it has a membership. I'm really visual, so it has some pretty good features for people like me (ADHD). Also, if you want a review, you can actually share the story on the platform, and people can give you feedback and work something like SH, but the community is smaller. Here is a link where the youtuber explains everything that it offers

Dude, seriously, just download a (non-microsoft) word processor program. There are tons of free ones out there, and you can use them exactly like you would Microsoft word and save your drafts directly to your computer hard drive.

No. I always use MS Word, but my kid doesn't let me write anymore. I did, however, make a comment on how to improve my local community and accidentally closed that tab before I submitted it and had to do that all over again.

Damn, being inexperienced might of actually saved me some time on this one. My chapters are only 2k words right now, losing 7k sounds awful.

well because that chapter was a prologue so i wrote a lot just to establish the MC's character. Because if people didnt like or could get past his personality and hijinks at the start, they weren't gonna last later anyway.

Then when i was done, my power got cut off that night due to a fucking storm and i wasnt using a laptop but a actual computer plugged into the outlet and everythinso i sat there in the dark for a while just contemplating, thinking maybe God didnt want me writing...then the next day i decided, "fuck God, that guy invented cockroaches." and re-wrote the chapter. Thankfully i have a good memory so it came out mostly the same, i just feel the first one was written a bit better.

It actually ended up being 9k words long when all was said and done lol.

Well, I've already recovered the manuscripts and brought it to my current standard (similar to the ones lost). For that, I simply copied and paste the chapters I have online and edited it (this is the hardest part, really).

For my other two stories, I still haven't copied them, though I plan to later on, after I completed my main project.

The most painful here are the illustrations. I lost sets of my illustrations' PSD files, that I was left with non-editable JPEG files. Hence, I made new covers. Good thing I'm still using the traditional pen-and-paper art drawing technique, so I got my linearts backed up physically. I also took the opportunity to improve on my coloring, that's why...

Sample:

From here...

to here...

And from here...

...to here.

I haven't mentioned I also lost back ups of all my old files, including old drawings, old game installers, and pictures of when I was still a teacher in my first school.
