So I struggle to understand why some authors believe that their novel is not a system novel, when it's a system novel.

So what differentiates a system from other kinds of cheats are in my opinion.

1. A textual display screen that shows the characters information and status.

2. This is the most important, the issuance of a task and a subsequent reward on completing it.

So how can you come and tell me that someone meditates on a concept he has no prior knowledge of and then receives a ding { you have comprehended the fusion of shadow magic and psychic magic and gained the unique spell Black coffin}

How are you recieving notifications on your actions without thinking that maybe this is some kind of system.

I mean don't systems scare them. That shit scares the hell out of me. Apart from stories where the author later clarifies that oh the system is an unconscious creation of the main character to help him pursue the things he wanted subconsciously or other reasons of the MC himself. The other alternative is that some bored god or malicious entity is granting you power because they plan to use you to achieve their goals. You may think you're working hard for that power, that it belongs to you but the system is an aid which is utter BS.
It's borrowed power, the fact that it can make you in a short period of time becomes an unrivaled OP character with a personality like sandpaper also means it can take away all that power and take you back to a normal person.

But that's not what this post is about, what I'm complaining about is that system novels are so commonplace that authors who don't give their characters a stat page think that they didn't write a system novel.

...Wouldn't this make real life a system novel? You check your bank account for your current status. Your boss gives you a task, and then pays you for it. Maybe a raise or promotion.

Really depends on what your definition of a system novel is though.

Actually, is there even a system tag on SH?
Ah, there's Level System, which lines up with my definition of a system. My story has a status, but no leveling up stats or attributes RPG style, so it doesn't count as a system novel (To me).
