So does this story even need a boylove subplot tag? The focus of the story is not romance obviously, and the both of them are asexual.

They are comfortable in each other’s presence. Love to stay skin to skin. Prefer to know the other is nearby. Would be very vengeful toward anything that acts hostile to the other. Would sacrifice other objectives for each other’s safety and companionship.
However, they don’t exchange bodily fluid. Holding hands, cuddling, feeling each other bodily heat are the only thing they do. The reason? They just like it and were unsure why they like it. I think they just love to feel the proofs that the other were present.

Btw: if you are thinking about creating a rimuru but except elemental mana condensed and gaining sentence as a traditional slime existence, you are creating a fleshy blob (wiggling mashed mussels) gaining sentience through bio-engineering as cells form a collective intelligence and then making a friend with a humanoid robot ( running Ai ) then I think there are too many things to consider like is in your world have any virtual world thinggy ? where ais collectively talk with one another and such, then if, in the virtual world, a simulation of seggs can be done .. then you can and should include BL tag, but if your story is mostly based on physical life scenarios where they just support watch other then no it's not needed,

Then you can even consider how they will reproduce as those kinds of life forms.. is it just programs ? or they can use the theory of mutation as two different lifeforms DNA or where it can be bio ingenerated cells forming a network with metals and change the compound to something ells .. you can stretch further by introduced mana or qi type energy that if applied correctly can theoretically be used any scenarios.. or if it's totally scientific world then use new terms like "dark matter corruption" or something...

The blob of flesh belongs to the last living specimen of a hyper mutating race. It brings with it the know-how to manipulate organic matters and turns them into its minions. It can communicate with these flesh beasts through telepathy.

The AI is an experimental automated defense system of an interstellar civilisation. It was designed to defend the civilisation against the species of the blob and other advanced races. However, it had mutated beyond its program and achieved self-awareness.

Yes, there is a virtual world for AIs to communicate but is more akin to exchanging info rather than some virtual touchy kissy. The blob of flesh couldn’t enter this world. Neither of them find it necessary to bring the blob into the virtual world.

Yes, the telepathy ability of the blob allows it to project images to the AI’s consciousness, but sex are too foreign and unnecessary to the two.

Anything that these two created, they will just consider as an extension of themselves and not children in the sense that humans understand. Neither of them found it necessary to create offspring (the meaning understood by human) since both of the are immortal. They can be destroyed but can not be killed by time.

Those two are content with knowing the other exist because their avatars (the boy form of the blob and the cybernetic body of the AI) were being close to the other.

Do the characters think of themselves as male? Then they’re boys.
Do you think of the characters as male? (From what you said, you’re not sure even that even applies so the answer is probably no.)
