Is there any point in continuing a story you’re no longer interested in?

I wanted to continue writing this story for the sake of finishing it, but I dropped it when I actualized my loss of interest. For two years, I’ve never finished writing a single novel, and I worry that it’ll continue.

I thought that continuing the story I’ve lost interest in was disciplined of me, but that discipline eventually peters out. If I write the story with 100% discipline and 0% passion, the readers can feel the lack of heart there. This is the paradox of discipline. Writing isn’t like exercising where you have to be extremely disciplined when you’re not passionate about sweating, and it’s not like eating veggies either. Creativity is a whole other kettle of fish. Discipline is not just one thing; there are many types of discipline.

Yeah. Writing a story that requires extreme discipline will eventually burn you out. Maybe there’s no point in continuing in anything when you don’t value it as much or anymore (when it comes to creativity, not practicality).

And now, I’m writing a new story that I enjoy. It feels great, and I don’t have to exert much discipline.

for me, anything that makes you want to write more and love it is the right thing. don't be afraid to just dump the things that gets in the way.

glad things worked out for ya :D

If you have posted it somewhere, either delete it or finish it. Don't leave your readers hanging. I have dropped stories before, but they either don't see the light of day, or I delete what I have already posted. Still, the more stories I completed, the easier it became for me to finish what I start. It also helps that I write what I enjoy, not what is mainstream. (As my meager views, compared to others in the site, will attest to.)

Finishing something is an amazing experience. You will never finish something if there is no precedence.

If you lose interest then adjusting the story length might help. Shortstories for example.

If working is a hobby for you. Then no there isn't a point imo. Hobbies are supposed to fun. If it's not fun, why bother?

Just delete it and gaslight everyone into believing it never existed.
Or you can pull the good ol' "Our battle is just getting started!".
