I don't want to commission it, so i thought I would like to make it own my own, any app you know? And It would be great if it was beginner friendly.
I already used inkarnate, but the better things are behind pay wall, so can't use that
Whatever map tool you end up using, I remember a tip from some mapmaking forum about coasts.
If you're drawing a whole continent, or even part of one, with a body of water next to it, there's a method for nice coasts.
1) draw the general shape of the landmass, like a blob thingy
2) refine that shape by adding islands, bays/gulfs, peninsulas, lagoons etc...
3) go to town on your coastline in the highest zoom you can like a squirrel on cocaine with that device that makes small holes in paper: the more irregular your coast is on maximum zoom, the better finish you'll get for the entire map.
I've used it once or twice in Inkarnate when it was free (a while ago) and it renders really well.
I'm also part of the people who are easily annoyed over inconsistencies in fantasy maps. No, there is no way that the main trading city isn't next to a body of water. Yes, you need some mountains to enclose at least one side of your desert. Rivers don't cross mountains, they flow around them, always going downhill. You won't find tundras and jungles at the same latitudes... That kind of things.
