so i love to write on the side and have a habbit of working on sevral projects at once some times forgetting one and reterning to it later, i love creative writting and i also love to share my ideas so after talking with a few people i figured id try giving posting my storys.

My stories tend to be short and i usualy aim for exactly ten chapters it can take me a while to finish a project at times especialy with my newer projects that im considering making longer.

My first compleated story was 10 chapters and about 13k words i had finished it not to long ago before being told i should try posting my work and so i posted it in full all ten chapters at the same time begining to end though i know my writting will improve and it probobly doesn't matter right now in the long run would it be better to release storys a few chapters at a time especialy if i start writting longer ones?

sorry for the yap session.

Since I'm taking a break from writing, might as well help you decide.

Well, it is bad for one reason: discoverability. Readers don't login at the same time in one day, and even more so, they don't login everyday. What if you released all your works on that day and hour where only a few users are online? What if those users don't like your genre?

See the implications?

Another thing I noticed is the relative shortness of your work (10 chaps, 13k words). While no one can blame you for writing a short work (I mean, if you're done, you're done, and that's it), many readers of online novels prefer their stories long, has accumulated enough chapters (and by 'enough' this is highly-dependent on the person's preference) to binge read, and you already established a reputation for consistency for them to pick up your work.

In the end, I can advise you to just keep writing and uploading, and like many others will say, update piecemeal.

Exception: you may save up chapters and then release a good number of them in the first days, and weeks, to jumpstart your number of readers. But definitely, don't dump it all in one release day/hour.

I don't think its bad but its definitely not as efficient for discoverability. Whenever you drop a chapter it shows up in the site's "Latest Updates" section and because there is a lot of chapters being posted site wide your best shot at being discovered is maximazing the time your stories spend there. Good luck with your stories :)

my short answer.
I dumped a story all at once. Marked it completed, there. You can *trust* the story gets finished, see? Its finished. This was on another WN site, by the way.

I got... z-e-r-o engagement. No views, reads, nothing. It was like a tree fell in the forest with no one there.

same exact story? I released on a diff. WN site, and I released a chapter every so often.
I snagged views and a few readers. I got one review out of it, too.

Now I understand why releasing on a schedule, what its for. Now, I grasp why a B-I-G long story is better. More chapters, more releases, it goes on to farm views and readers more. Its basically your only weapon, past cover quality and writing quality.

This is anecdotal, but I reorganized my early chapters and split them up significantly (from 16 to 60+). I was basically adding a chapter every 15 minutes for hours, and I never gained more readers/views. If you have a dump you want to throw on the site, I think it can be done if you set the times to be 15 mins or so apart, so your story is on the front page for a long time. If you post everything at once, your minutes of discoverability will be very low.

For your health? Yeah, it’s bad, especially if you do it before sleeping.

Hoping to wake up to 100k readers but seeing 0 instead can cause a heart attack.
