is it worth reviving an old story?

Hey guys, quick question :blob_evil_two:
If you dropped your story several months ago, would it be worth it to pick it up again now? Like, does it affect the story's views and engagement? And would it feel like starting over, or do readers still stick around?
tyvm ^^

Absolutely. If there are a lot of readers and you come back with a bunch of views then it may end up on trending but if not then I would say a benefit is getting closer to finishing. Readers can come and go so it depends.

I'd say if you want to finish the story, the engagement shouldn't matter.
This.

If you feel the drive to pick a story back up and continue writing it, then do it. I'd refamiliarize yourself with it, make any adjustments or rewrites to the OG Material that you think might be necessary, then start it up again. Readers will come and go regardless and your engagement will start back up once the story begins to pop up on the front page.

A few months is nothing, I have stories that I haven’t gotten chapters in about a year that I still hope will upload new chapters.

Hell yeah!

Take back that story, dude! I can guarantee that you'll have a lot of readers who'll be delighted to see it pop back up in their reading list! At least that's how I'd feel if a story I followed came back after a few months.

I think it depends on you. Is the story you want to revive something you want to revive? Do you have fun and enjoyment working on that kind of project?
For some reason, quite a few people have told me that there isn't enjoyment in writing and doesn't need to be ~ I disagree unless you're purely in it for the imagined money bags. That said, do what feels right; do what makes you happy.

Do you want to pick it up? If so, yes. If not, then no

No.
Nothing is worth it.
All of life is futile and meaningless. A cascade of self-delusion as we attempt to fill our lives with complicated social constructs of useless things like "friends and family" and "bacon".

So since nothing is worth it, everything is of equal value.

If everything is of equal value, then starting your book back up is the most important thing you will ever do in your life.

Are you REALLY going to turn your back on the most meaningful thing you will ever do or achieve?

The thing that will exist long after you are dead, potentially influencing the future of humanity for generations to come? You will let it lie in The dust, forgotten, abandoned, unloved and rejected like so many wayward souls in this world?

And they call ME a monster.

Up to you, but I would finish that book! Makes good practice, and you can be proud of yourself for sticking to something :)

Don't undestimate the lingering (im)patience of us readers!!!

I dropped mine three years ago when a baby dropped out of me. Actually, the baby shot out like a rocket as soon as his head was free.

I'm still trying to figure out not if but how to pick up my story again.

I just mash the keys and give the result to chatgpt. That seems to work. As long as none of the characters are white.

However, they seem to have fixed that.

You can't just slander bacon like that. Bacon has meaning.

I've been considering letting AI help, but I think it's going to be after the kid starts going to school on a regular basis, and that might not happen for some time since I want to negotiate a hybrid homeschool/public school arrangement through independent study. I worry about the kid getting bored in class because he's really smart, but I think having access to the playground for social development is very important. He should be allowed to attend regular classes if he enjoys the classroom environment, of course. I want a flexible plan that will let the kid choose on a daily basis.
