Was re-reading the novel extra, and man i Cringed everytime author describe how Super duper is super Power Korea in the novels, it was a huge turn off for me and the fact that it was completely unnecessary to the novel is another disappointment for me since it was a decent novel.

I generally avoid fantasy novels or novels that happening in Modern world with modern politics because I am pretty sure there is gonna be some nationalistic self-jerk off that will give me second or third hand embarrassment and they are definitely gonna drag down some countries and people for that.

Is it just me?

Ps(it did made me search for history to understand what's koreans beef with Japanese was, so there is that)

I've read a more than a few stories that were primarily nationalist propaganda, and while I don't enjoy it or look for it. I have read enough that it doesn't bother me so long as I am enjoying other aspects of the story.

Yes, there was an adventure story I was enjoying it a lot, but then the last 1/3 of the story was just a Catholic hate-fest. I'm not even Catholic, but I wasn't enjoying the story turning into hate-filled propaganda. From how well the author described the traditions, I can only assume he or she was someone raised Catholic whose faith would falter later on.

By the end, the adventure aspect was gone.

It can be uncomfortable. I've stopped reading a few Chinese novels that I had liked before for this reason. One example, the MC was eating with some people and casually asked if his new pet’s space ability can be used to nuke Washington DC, and was disappointed when told no. Another one that stands out in my memory is when the author obviously didn't like Japan and MC destroyed the country with zombies.

I’m telling ya, those darn iguanas are planning global take over. I mean seriously! You can shoot them over the border.

And when you turn around? They are back with ten generations of family. Including a background on how they went to a top tier university.

As an American Nationalist, capitalist, I get it. Having pride in your homeland is called evil by people with no pride. But I hate the weird strain China has, one where they are the chosen ones, yet also a global victim of bullying. I understand Korea's, half their nation is being oppressed by the Kim family, and they can't build shit without Japan butting it's nose in.

It was always this way.

The vast majority of the Holywood production was like this long before you were exposed to the popular culture of other nations, and found out they did the exact same thing, with a same message, with same creator provincialism, just with infinitely smaller budgets.

It feels eerie, doesn't it?

If anything, I believe Hollywood has gotten more bold with their politics in movies. At least before it was entertaining, you wouldn’t bat an eye, since it worked.

Now, it looks like they are trying to shove it down, rather than cleverly incorporate it into the piece.

I downloaded the first He Who Fights With Monsters book on Audible, but I never listened to it because I found out the main character has a tendency to go on rants about how much he hates America. As if it's not dumb enough that he apparently has nothing better to do in the middle of saving the world than badmouth countries he doesn't like, he's doing it after being isekaid to a world where America doesn't even exist!

Yeah, but if it's not done annoyingly, I'd just gloss over it and keep reading.

I believe someone can be ultra-nationalist and also be polite/reserved.

Ex. Just because someone really likes one sports team and wants them to demolish every other team doesn't mean that they have to scream about it all the time. They can just say that they really like that team and they're rooting for them to win the championship cause they're amazing...
and then move on.

But if it's just a whole bunch of propaganda and glazing and especially hate for others, then I'd say that's a good reason to drop it right there and then.

Loving one's nation shouldn't necessarily mean hating all others...

The Holywood did get more unhinged, that's true, but the part the OP hates about other novels was always there since the start.

Only the works where the characters didn't get to reference the other parts of the world got a pass.

Well, it shouldn't be that big of a deal, I write that kind of stuff with kingdoms and so on, so I do need the politics but I still get my inspiration from the real world but it doesn't depend on my opinions or my ideological biases, but I think it's a matter of taste, because also the ideologies of readers who are not prepared to receive ideology different from their own, in my humble opinion I think it affects how I perceive the rest of the story, positively or not.

It's because it feels unreasonably unbalanced, and obviously exaggerated.
This is a reminder to temper your storytelling so that any theme or idea isn't presented unopposed or without consideration.

In moderation, it's tolerable.
In many cases, when authors start voicing their nationalism and opinion on politics through their characters, it's not in moderation.
So I'm going with "Yes, it's a turn-off".
