So, I have been watching Delicious in Dungeon lately (read binge-watching) and I got this idea for a Hetalia fanfic. I even have the name:

Nine Times Out Of Ten Food Poisoning... in Dungeon. (BL Crack)

The thing is, I won't use any of the Delicious in Dungeon characters, or even the world or the dungeon itself. No, I will just dump some Hetalia Characters in McFantasy land, and then have them cook monsters in a dungeon to survive... and let them have food poisoning about 9 times out of 10 in the beginning, until they learn how to cook the mobs.

So, my question is:

If I am not going to use any of the Delicious in Dungeon lore, so do I still need to tag the fanfic as a part of the Delicious in Dungeon fandom?

One can argue I am taking the most important part: the idea of living off the dungeon. But, cooking is a basic skill, and I honestly don't think that the anime has a monopoly on it.

I still need to finish my current project, but the next thing I write might be this idea. I just need to do some researching when I have a bit of time. You know, note down some recipes and survival techniques. Maybe write an outline as well.

Cool idea. I haven't seen Delicious in Dungeon yet, but there is another slightly similar one called “Camp Campfire Cooking in Another World” which seemed really good to me.

You do have a point here. As you said, you aren't thinking of using any Delicious in Dungeon lore or characters, which means this shouldn't be a crossover fanfic. I don't know, don't take me seriously. Best of luck with your stories.

Thanks for the answer! I guess that if someone says I should add the fandom, I can do so.

So basically, you're taking inspiration from dungeon meshi? If you're not taking anything from its story(lore, plot, characters, nothing at all) besides the idea of surviving in a dungeon by eating monsters, then you don't need to add the tag. If anything, I discourage you from doing so since it might mislead most readers into thinking you would be writing around its story and give them expectations, only to disappoint them when none of the characters they love and adore shows up in your story. If you really want to mention Dungeon Meshi, you could add something like "Inspired by Delicious in Dungeon." It's optional and not really necessary, but if you really want to, then there's that.

As long you dont copy identically the monsters in Dungeon meshi, yes its regular FF.

Just like a FF is a toriko fanfic, if the MC is in toriko world with ingredient-animals, despite 0 appearance of Toriko and other charas
But if the FF have a random meteor transforming the wildlife, then its totally a normal random FF.
Heck, could even do a Fullmetal alchemist FF where they won (anime end) but everyone get out of retirement/family-life bc the wildlife are turning into gigantic ingredient animals (and Roy become the main cook with her flame ability)
