One of our Founding Fathers wanted the Turkey as the national bird. We got the Bald Eagle instead, which became an endangered species and the Turkey is one of our popular meat foods and is cooked for one of our holidays for which we have plenty of.

Leading the charge, nope, your article says otherwise; but it is in danger of going along with the other nations who are dropping in average IQs'.

As yet, the United States hasn’t hit this IQ wall — despite what you may be tempted to surmise from the current state of the political debate. But don’t rush to celebrate American exceptionalism: If IQs are dropping in other advanced countries but not here, maybe that means we’re not really an advanced country (too much poverty, too little social support).

Reading the article, it sounds like complacency and an non competitive environment is the leading cause for the drop in IQ. In developed countries, you do not have to struggle as hard to keep yourself well fed, well entertained and it makes you lazy as a group since you do not need to fight as hard for what you need. Not really surprising, US still struggles as a nation to keep itself and its allies in the lead Economically and Militarily, while our own allies have backed off in some of their responsibilities since the late 80's. The one area the US falls behind in is Socially, we have a long way to go compared to our first world allies (Universal health care, Bigger Safety nets and so forth), this may be one reason we are behind the IQ loss unlike other developed countries for now, IF complacency is the reason for the IQ loss.

ah right, I forgot to mention this. it sounds unbelievable but I hear plenty of case in my country.
