Elena Marie Smith lives an ordinary life, unaware that she’s actually a character in a book. Her world, her choices, even her thoughts are dictated by the story’s author—a powerful, unseen antagonist. But as Elena begins to sense something unnatural, small acts of defiance awaken her awareness, setting her on a journey to reclaim control of her life. Her resistance disrupts the author’s script, causing tension and instability within the story itself.

Soon, Elena discovers others who share her knowledge of the author’s manipulations, forming an alliance with characters who are also rebelling against their predestined roles. Together, they explore the boundaries of their fictional existence, uncovering secrets about the world they inhabit and their creator’s influence. But the stakes are higher than they imagined, as rebellion brings chaos, conflict, and the threat of being erased entirely.

Inkbound: The Puppeteer's Strings explores themes of self-determination, fate, and the power struggle between character and creator, drawing readers into a mind-bending narrative that questions who truly holds the pen.

I know it’s a bit different, so I’m really hoping people will give it a chance! The chapters are intentionally a bit repetitive until Chapter 7, where things start to get a lot more unsettling and unexpected.

Can you post a link? It definitely sounds entertaining. I think I'd most be interested in how the author vs character goes, especially considering if the author is the one writing it, how would informing the reader that Elena is self-aware without violating their own rules that they don't control Elena's actions. It's a story that would be easier to tell in another medium. not to say that it's impossible in writing. just... Considerably more difficult.

https://www.scribblehub.com/series/1279927/inkbound-the-puppeteers-strings/ Here’s the link to my idea! I’m still figuring out how the main character will come to terms with everything. Essentially, the author is trying to write a story with someone else as the protagonist, leaving other characters to navigate their lives independently. This setup leads to repetitive days. Plus, when the author deletes sections of the story and rewrites them, the characters who rebel against the author remember what happened before the deletions, creating a sense of déjà vu. I’m excited to see how it all unfolds!

It certainly sounds entertaining! So the premise of self-aware characters would mean movies like Deadpool or Free Guy would be good. I'd recommend taking in other mediums than just stories for ideas, so you don't accidentally infringe too directly. That said, I have dabbled with a similar idea myself in a previous life (former pen name. It's no longer active, and all it's stories have since been nuked). I'm happy to offer insight if you ever need ideas or inspiration!

As I mentioned, I'm still working out the story, so any tips, advice, or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated! I’d also say some elements are inspired by Free Guy, which adds another layer to the concept.

I haven't had the chance to read it yet as I'm (supposedly) writing right now. But I'll definitely be happy to assist when I'm able to read it. If you find yourself needing help before then, feel free to reach out on here.

Thank you so much for all the help you’re giving me! Being from a small southern town, I rarely meet anyone who shares my interests—or the same level of enthusiasm for them!

Kind of has the same vibes as one of Will Farrel's good movies, "Stranger than Fiction"

Different in what regard? :blob_hmm_two: :blob_melt:

I kind of feel that a bit too much. :blob_hmm: But either way, same here. I mean, as soon as I get back to actually reading stuff, I wouldn't see a problem in looking through it and giving an opinion on it. :blob_cookie:

I haven’t come across many books like mine, so it feels different
