OK. I randomly got an idea for a series I wanna try to write, and I want suggestion/tips for going about it.

Mc dies. They reincarnate (whoopie), and they go about in a fantasy. Maybe a cultivator? IDK whatever world it doesn't matter. They don't truly "reincarnate" They get alienated memories that feels like knowledge crammed into their head instead of memories of happenings. Eventually after an entire book or short series, They die again. Same thing happens again, but this time they get two lives of knowledge first ones memories as fresh as the first time it happened. They get a "Talent" from their previous life. And it continues like so with a short series after series of an infinitely reincarnating MC. Every reincarnation they get more and more OP, More knowledge, a new body, and new worlds to explore.
TLDR; MC is a roguelite player.
I am currently fueled on so much caffeine that I am constantly twitching, so forgive my quick and messy writing.

I would think about it more.

You could make it like this:

  • MC reincarnates
  • Write the whole volume as normal
  • Send him/her on a hero's journey
  • End with him/her dying. Heroic or tragic death, whatever
  • Introduce the second world, memories intact.
  • A new volume, new world, new hero's journey
  • Rinse and repeat as long as you have ideas
But certainly think about it more. What you wrote out, for now, is way too messy and only good for spitballing ideas, not sitting down and starting to write.

Edit: You could switch up genres every time he reincarnates, tackling different themes. But in every life, he has to have something that keeps people reading. So there has to be a planned-out story for every arc. This can't be rushed if you want reader retention. But it would also have a cure for the endless stories where mc goes world-hopping over and over again, discovering stronger and stronger realms. At least, it is a valid explanation for it.

As I said I'm basically tweaked out right now, and yeah what you said is basically what I planned. Anyway yeah I will sit down and actually try to make a cohesive series later, but first imma wait till I'm not to retry a few times per word because of twitching. Thanks for the advice though. Hope you have fun with your series.

So when you say roguelite player, do you actually mean that they focus on stealth and tracking and such? Because that would be awesome! I have yet to see someone do it well though. Generally they fall into the pitfalls of OP assassin (Primal Hunter, I'm looking at you) with absolutely zero balance with everyone else or cool speedy dagger moves that eventually leads to zero stealth defeating the point of a rogue (the side character rogues of Salvos, I'm looking at you).

No I was meaning the roguelite genre. Basically you restart every time you play with nothing(Roguelike). You play and start from nothing but each time you play you have "metaprogress" a little stronger each time.(Roguelite).

Sadness.

I've thought of a version similar to this, basically a wandering fallen god with his divinity stolen the moment he was ascended and banished beyond his original universe as a way to hide the thief's crime because it's basically a very heinous crime in the pantheon, a murder of a god.

He sidesteps the underworld, avoiding losing his memories of the reincarnation but realized he has exactly one chance to be sure to remember things.

he cultivates to a level of where he could make an inner world but he intentionally doesn't do so, no material existence in this inner world, it's only connection is to store memories and his essence that ties the world to his spirit.

this would hide the memories not being erased by drinking the waters of the rivers of time, a requirement the underworld enforces for reincarnation.

Each universes share similar rules, cultivation, magic, gravity, the speed of thermal transfer because they each slightly affect each other.

He keeps uses his memories to find universes so similar to his so he can follow the clues to force hai reincarnation into eventually reincarnating into his home universe and get his revenge on the god that stole divinities from countless nascent gods.

You can check out Doomsday Wonderland (it's on Webnovel, not sure if you'll find it anywhere else) cause it has a very similar premise to what you're talking about; it's not reincarnation, but simply traveling between words.

Aside that, it's a really nice idea, but really hard to execute well for hopefully obvious reasons. Good luck.

The main difference I wanna do from the reincarnation genre with it is that they are a different person each reincarnation. They basically have alot of books vs actually living through it. Person takes over body vs. person just knows alot
