I dream of writing two to three chapters a day, yet somehow, I find myself only finishing one chapter after a long week of wrestling with my thoughts. Is this the infamous newbie syndrome or am I uniquely cursed with the slow-update disease? It feels like I’m trapped in a time loop of writerly frustration!

It really depends on your imagination and how far you see the book going with the right enthusiasm and mind set you can imagine 10 different scenarios for a single chapter it all depends

If you are like me, well, you just need to have the majority of the story already in your head, and as you type, you can add something to it, but the story kind of needs to just be finished in your head as at least a concept.

It's normal. When I first started (and even recently restarted after a 4 month hiatus) I was barely able to do a chapter a week. It's habit-forming, however. I'd recommend you work that one chapter a week, but have a series of side projects that you may or may not post the rest of the time. That's the main reason I have my one-shot collections. It's primarily a writing exercise. I edit them to be readable, but I don't worry about timing, rhythm, plot, etc etc. Because they're one-shots, they don't NEED to make sense. A reader doesn't like it, they can move onto the next without an issue.

Ah, are we speaking about comments again?

Many amateur writers expect to receive them, and those who do come to regret it.

One day, are you wondering why the people aren't commenting to chapter one, chapter two, chapter three and then you ask ....

....and you get a reply, and they will trash your story so thoroughly you start to wish it was never written.

And if you are unfortunate enough to be on the Royal Road, it comes in review carpet bombing

Two or three chapters a day is insane unless you're writing very short chapters.

When I started I was super motivated and was writing a 4kish chapter every two days with a 5k+ chapter every now and again.

Now as the novel has reached into 40+ chapters I find writing is both faster as I've gotten better at putting what's in my head into words, but also slower as I need to account for consistency with all previous chapters.

Now I aim for a 3-4k chapter every 3 days but find even now it's more like every 4 days because of the factorio DLC.

One thing I have noticed is that after a certain amount of chapters I've gone through this cycle enough:

- "Uh I've delayed this chapter long enough!"
- "Bah I have writers block and don't know how to start"
- Finally sits down and writes
- "Oh wow that was actually okay after just sitting down and starting"

I've gone through that enough now to know it really is a matter of discipline and recognizing that feeling of writers block can be trained to go away by sitting down and just writing. Now it's more of "Uh, this chapter's hard to start but I know if I just start it'll come through easily enough like the 10+ previous times".

I tend to do two to three chapters every three days. Not always in the same book, mind you, and sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less... so say average 2.5 chapters. But again, not all in the same story.

I am currently sitting at 1 chapter a day at 1,5k words and would like to push it a bit further to reach the 2k mark and be able to write 'two chapters' by cutting it in half. Starting from only 600 words a day, I think I've progressed smoothly. You' get there. Just give yourself time and don't have high expectations. If you love writing it will come on its own.

I am also a newbie and I seriously want to write but the will of the world always try stop my fingers from typing and let them move towards some new entertainments. It takes a lot of courage and power to resist the will of the world and complete 2 or 3 chapters with 1.5k words a week.:blob_dizzy:

As an autistic and ADHD patient, I think being able to write a chapter is already fine considering I'm fighting my own mental illness to continue writing a chapter or even continue a single story. I'm more surprised to think that I could actually finish some stories considering my ADHD keeps switching from one genre to another.

Ah yes, the dream of so many authors. So many wish to be able to do 2 a day, but alas, even 1 is a miracle.

Took me a year to be able to write more than 1 smallish chapter a week.

For me now, it is an average of around 3500k words a week. Though whenever the motivation and mood goes into overdrive, oh those are fun times. I'm currently in a really good reading sprint after a really bad drought of not writing anything. Hopefully, one day I will be able to consistently write a chapter a day.

Now THIS I can relate to. Having about 9 "active" stories right now, with between 3 and 57 chapters in them...

I thought writing/psoting one chapter per week was a pretty good timeframe
