Sounds great, but I don't want to pay a million dollars for word.

Depends on what version you have. I payed 11 Euro for the entire office, I think 2016 or 2018? I'm not on my computer right now, but that was it. Nothing illegal either, just look for the best offer from a key trader with Google shopping. Works when I do it.

It used to be free, back in days of old. But now every company and their mother has shifted to subscription based "Renting" of programs. You can still use a key to unlock the thing, same with Adobe, but the programs now auto-check every month for a payment/key otherwise your program access gets yoinked.

Yikes! Yeah, I'm still using some super old copy of Word that came with an ancient PC I owned. Subscription-based programs really were the end of Photoshop purchasing and the birth of Photoshop pirating.
