I'm taking a risk here, but I like Word. Yes, I have fought it many times when the formatting I wanted seemed impossible, and I have retyped sections rather than look at one more help screen that didn't help. But. I have updated to the most recent version, and it is doing something new. It used to catch many of my spelling errors - good - but now it also does some simple grammar fixes. I am going back and rewriting one of my past novels, and suddenly Word is giving me a lecture on commas. I once had a kind publisher tell me I was almost publishable, but I needed to use fewer commas (not the only problem, and he chose not to publish me after all). Now the new version of Word is jumping all over me. Too many commas, too few commas, commas in the wrong places. And it is right. I am not a complete grammar idiot. I see what Word is doing, and I can see it is right, and I was wrong. I am not sure this now makes me magically publishable, but at least it makes me less silly to those who have good grammar. Thanks, Word.

I would use word if it didn't cost so much to get. The only reason I can use it currently is because it is free for students.

I think my comment about Word is mostly a reflection of my age. I am so old I wrote my first novel on an electric typewriter. Even the simplest word processor was magic to me. Revisions? As often as I wanted, as easily as could be. Now I could write the book in any order. Stumped for a middle? Write the ending and then work backwards. Magic. And now it will fix my spelling and put in commas? Magic plus. Maybe just put me down as the happiest guy in the forum.

I prefer to use Scrivener for fiction, even though I have Word through my Microsoft 365 subscription (I use Excel and OneNote for various things).

Word is good because you can do all sorts of complex formatting. I use Word to format resumes for my real job. If I were in school or writing business reports, I'd still be using Word more often.

I use a programming IDE and edit based purely on C++ syntax suggestions.

I enjoy using Word as well. I've Office 365 or whatever it's called, so I love things like being able to access my documents when I'm on the go. Plus, I've nice plugins like Grammarly Premium.

I have Word, but I tend to just use GDocs and then save a backup on Wordpad.

On slightly unrelated tangent, I was today years old when I learned Word is a paid program. Whoops.

I write with a quill and parchment paper, and then I send blood magic into it. The words float, and then they enter my computer to post themselves on docs. Slowly learning how to type though.

dis u?

It used to be free, back in days of old. But now every company and their mother has shifted to subscription based "Renting" of programs. You can still use a key to unlock the thing, same with Adobe, but the programs now auto-check every month for a payment/key otherwise your program access gets yoinked.
