I'm Feeling Devious Right Now

If you have described something as indescribable, haven’t you already described it?

Indescribable is a description, but it doesn't mean the thing can't be described (because Indescribable can). In instead means that the thing can't be adequately described.

Something which is described as indescribable is merely a reference to that which cannot be described, thereby creating two separate entities: one that is describable and one that is not.

This is actually a philosophical argument that comes up from time to time. You can read about it in Daoism or the western Theory of Forms.

So it's indescribable.
No it is describable. It just means that there isn't a sufficient description that would work instead. For whatever reason. Be it too complex, personal, or just irrelevant. Sometimes it can just be because better terms to describe can't be recalled or aren't known.

Not that it is impossible to describe. Only that the alternative options are less sufficient than using undiscribable.

The description is that it's indescribable.

I like how your pfp ties into the question.

I prefer to distinguish two parts to this issue - the indescribable as the actual entity, and the perception of it. The entity is not affected by whatever you see and whatever you call it; what changes is your perception of it - you are generalizing it into terms we understand that group things we cannot comprehend.

I wrote my signature like two months ago, but it also somewhat works in this context.

The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth.
The named is the mother of the ten thousand things.
Ever desireless, one can see the mystery.
Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations.
These two spring from the same source but differ in name;
this appears as darkness.
Darkness within darkness.
The gate to all mystery.

Thank you. We might never know what lies behind the door nor my hood.

This argument is on the same level as "is nothing a noun?" And yes, the concept of nothingness is a noun, just like the quality of unable to be described is a descriptor.
