So I'm writing a short novel for fun ... It has a game world.. but the real life of a character in that universe has five incarnations .

Moreover , it's a system genre so according to soulbond (soul to soul connection) travelling through time and dimensions is possible... Like worldhopping. So I'm confused myself how to connect all this ... Can someone help me ?

:blob_frown: Is that not the job of an author? To create something fitting.

Keep good notes is all I can really suggest. I use Obsidian to keep all my connections clear between worlds.

Write what you enjoy writing, and everything else will be a lot easier. Don't listen to people that say you can't do something, just realise that you might have to put a lot more effort into something that is more difficult to write and you need to be invested in that.

Did you ever played Kingdom Hearts? Xehanort can inspire you on how to write your character with the five incarnations.

You have the young version of him, the older, one version of him where he put his heart(soul) inside another one and became amnesiac, resulting in him doing thing a bit differently and at the this version of him split into two entities. Here your five incarnations. In Kingdom Hearts 3, you see all of them in the same timeline.

Who are you writing about? That's the question. If the character that has five incarnations is not the one whose story you're presenting to the reader, no need to focus to it that much.

If he's travelling to different worlds/universes, then only the "world hopping" tag is needed. If he's travelling bak and forth from different versions of the same universe, then both "multiverse" and "world hopping" are needed. If he's stuck in that new parallel (or semi-parallel) universe, then it's a "multiverse" without "world hopping."

First of, your thread title (multiverse and world hopping, hinting multiple worlds and universes) does not match your original post (that universe, singular, which supposed to contain FIVE versions of him)

Either way, plot out the story properly with a notebook.

My question is, is this one of those one soul multiple bodies kind of situation thing where they somehow occupy the same frame of time aka in a medieval ages where the person is playing as five different characters, maybe in different camps? If yes, good luck keeping track.

Or is this a second scenario where the person occupies the different characters in DIFFERENT TIME PERIODS, as in one body is in modern time when the other body is in medieval times? In this case, you can play with time travelling with TWO DISTINCT PLAYS; time is inevitable and Main Character (MC) can affect nothing or time is fluid and the only two important bodies MC cares about is the most past one that can affect everyone downstream and the spotters in the future to help the past ones affect the downstreams. For first time writers, it is best to do things chronologically but if you want, you can play hopscotch and skip around time periods, just make sure not to be lost.

Ask @Juia_Darkcrest They have a book called The Deity Entertainment Network here on Scribblehub about a person jumping from universe to universe. I'd suggest taking a look at it, and picking their brain about it.

As for the five incarnations, I assume you already have an idea.

One of my novels has a FMC with 3 identities, 2 bodies, 1 soul. This means I have to build 3 personalities at once with 3 POVs complete with their worldbuilding (each character/personality has a historical setting). However, it must be tied in 1 appropriate context (they both have to understand each other as 1 soul entity). It's complicated. The difficulty is balancing shifts between POVs and maintaining unique identities between POVs.

Honestly, just 3 MC POVs is already emotionally exhausting for me to write the narrative. If you want to narrate 5 incarnations at once, it will be even more complex, especially if they live in 5 different worlds. If you are still learning to write, it is better to just focus on 1 POV. Find your writing style first, once you are comfortable writing narratives, you can gradually develop your fiction.

I apologise, but could you tell me that how many worlds do they frequent? As in jumping in between world A, B and C or is it like a progression thing where they have a main world Zeta, then they go to other worlds just to take stuff?

Hmmm

In two of my fanfics my MCs travel

MFGR - It is linear. MC goes to a world to accomplish a thing, then leaves.
DEN - It's 10 different worlds, and the MC hops back and forth between them, advancing the stories in each.

In both, there is some movement of items between worlds, but he isn't like bringing a tank from the modern world back to a medieval fantasy world.

They have a main world, kind of, but not like living there, more like a hub.

One is just the home of the gods who are getting the reincarnators to put on a show for them.

The other is literally a game show set that the MC returns to to get his stat bonuses and new skills items etc from the higher beings who are watching his progression.

I know this two type of settings...but here's the catch...MC goes through 5 successive reincarnation timeline first and back and forth to collect her memories required in OG game, which is bound to a system...now when the system interferes, there comes the theme of travelling through different 'universes' to collect souls. Anyways your fanfics example were a great help.

That I haven't decided yet.... Probably I'll write a setting where there isn't a fixated main world...the first one you can say.

Thanks for mentioning kingdom heart...When I write the parts that include same timeline ... I'll take some ideas from it.

No problems, let me know if you want more info on how to best use Obsidian for writing. All the best with your writing.
?Thank you

@Juia_Darkcrest can I read your novel first? Then I'll ask for inspirations. I'm stuck in a writers block writing five incarnations where each of the time FL's character differentiates hugely based on her choice... And her real soul didn't even merge yet... Yeah so... I'm kinda in a nutshell to keep them on track... When where how... Which was which etc.

Yeah... I'm having a hard time thinking of all five pov's + OG pov . So I think I'll try to focus on two or three main ones.

You're welcome. I thought about another one, Byakuran, from the manga Katekyoshi Hitman Reborn! That could help you. He quite different from the previous one, he connected to every other Byakuran linving in separate parallel universes. He can have their knowledge, if he ever fought against an opponent in another universe, he will know his technique in his own.
