And the author stopped updating all of a sudden, how would you react?

(Even if the author just wants to complete the story without the influence of the stats.)

If I were a reader
Bruh bruh bruh bruh bruh... bruh!
All day long I'd read some nifty books
If I were a reader!
I'd build a big tall library with rooms by the dozen
Right in the middle of the town
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below
There would be one long staircase just going up
And one even longer coming down
And one more leading nowhere, just for show

So, if I drop a note saying that I will start updating one day, would that make it all better?
At least there would be hope :blob_reach: Leaving a note like this is always better imo

It happened a lot with me, and I usually give an author 2 or 3 chances, but if they keep dropping the books, then I simply blacklist them and I won't touch anything they make.

I have the full intention to complete it. And you know what? Now that I dropped the note on the book, I got my mojo back! Finished the chapter which was giving me trouble, and feel hyped to write the next!

Disappointed, but will quickly find another story to read

Lurk outside their home making the occasional creepy noise while only being visible during flashes of lightning, then vanishing without a trace. Oh, and for some reason, even though I will be wearing a wide-brimmed fedora, water will be constantly running down my face from UNDER the hat for no discernable reason.

This will continue until they publish another chapter.

Readers can only speak for themselves. The author gets the final say if they are going to continue or not. If someone is writing a story, posts three good chapters, then stops but gets lots of comments wanting a 4th chapter, it doesn't make them a bad person. Yeah having that 4th chapter would be nice. But if someone writes for free then there is no obligation to continue.

Yeah like corty said, someone that can't get past a certain story length and then starts over ruins their reputation. But again, people writing for hobbies don't really need to worry about that.

When an Author stopped updating,

I feel the urge to continue the story myself and see through the ending.

Should i treat this as a sign to become author myself ?

Hey, thanks for the answer, how have you been doing?

Hm, maybe you want to write a fanfic?

If someone slows down or takes a hiatus, that author should drop a note somewhere explaining as much, so that readers know. We can post messages right in our own profile on SH. Without such a message, it is far more likely I will drop a book.

"Well, pity, I liked the story."

Then I'll forget it and move on to something else. When the author does update and if I'm notified, I'll return.

That or I as the reader drop the story for anywhere between a few months to a few years. I'd then come back to it one day when I just randomly remember it (oh yeah, this story exists), and pop back to see if it had updated.

I will point out that once I do that "pop back" thing, the story usually doesn't capture me again the way it does when I first read it.
