Idea: My MC is treated like a Dog

So, in my side novel as I continue to build the world so that I can post it one day once I have everything set, I have this very dystopian like fantasy world with a mix of steampunk and Victorian.

The country was war torn and because of that, city states were created to house to remnants of what's left as most of the planet is pretty much ash.
Iron Blood City, a more dystopian steampunk city for the peasants, controlled by the military, made to breed soldiers, grooming (both ways) the kids when they are young.
My MC being an orphan who has to go through the Iron River in order to awaken his talent for magic as a baby and then be forced to go Hound Academy, an academy where all students are not called by their names, but by the names the teachers (trainers) want to call them and these students have to fight each other for favorability from teachers for benefits if they want to learn magic, given collars only to further dehumanize them and having female teachers, beautiful, with soothing and gentle voices for conditioning and control as they are reward and pampered if they obey.

Mind you, this is just one aspect of the world, but I wanted to know your thoughts since....you know.....there will be grooming (Conditioning and control through puberty, similar to Makima)
The MC won't fall for it of course as he has other priorities, but yeah

Sounds little similar to the shadow slave, don't you think? Focus more on grooming and slavery part to give it a distinct vibe.

Sounds little similar to the shadow slave, don't you think? Focus more on grooming and slavery part to give it a distinct vibe.

Really? I mean I know Sunny was an orphan in the slums and there was a war, but it's not like he's being picked to be a soldier, they don't live in a steampunk city I believe, there aren't demi-humans, and the academy students frequently get dehumanized, which I'm pretty sure doesn't happen in shadow slave, unless I'm misremembering

Well, in a way.

The world is very harsh as the people of said world encourage violence and control as everyone in the world is trying to become the strongest to reach the infamous Supreme Magus rank through grimoires (Inspired by Reverend Insanity. There is a lot of Reverend Insanity inspiration in my story)
Magic is always never free or be used all willy milly as I included aspects of cultivation like how most people cannot use magic and you need talent for it and there are always trades.
There's also the fact the students may have to kill each other for favorability from teachers
There's also the fact there are three total continents, Iron Blood City being the extremely dystopian military controlled state with the nobility one, who leech of that work, creating wizards out of noble students, and the forest one.

So yeah, it's very mature and dark with a lot of heavy subjects and a lot of uncomfortability
