Ok, I can admit I suck at math, so here is the question:

Platform: AO3

Chapter length: 5k

Chapter backlog: 3 (might go up to 5 tomorrow if I binge write.)

Patience to update the story to urge to get some feedback ratio: 1:99

Words which I can comfortably write during the workweek (per day): 3k.

And now, for the caveman question of the century:

How many updates per week without ending up with no readers, or ending up in a burnout?

(Feel free to vote in the poll! =))

Prolly four? Depends what exactly you want, but, 7x3k gives me 21k, which is slightly more than 4x5k. That would get your backlog growing just a bit in case something set you back.

I don't think I can manage four. I mean, I can find the urge to draft, but editing is something I do only at gun point. The gun is held by my Muse, of course, for she does not want to let me start another story, before the one I am working on is beat into shape.

(The Muse is my own hamster brain.)

Take it easy then and go with the slow approach.

Also, ask your readers too, or at least tell them.

Me, personally, I've been procrastinating since April, and I haven't published a single chap for one of my story.

5k per chapter, I'd say once to twice a week at most. I used to do 10k chapters once a week. Now, I'm daily with shorter ones!
I think I can do that. Do you think that Saturday and Wednesday are too far apart updating wise?

I would divide the chapters into 2k word chapters and publish daily, rewarding readers if they meet certain marks with extra chapters. That can increase your popularity. For example. "If I get X amount of kudos, I'll upload an extra chapter the Sunday!" Or something like that.
