For my current story, I try to choose a set number of countries and use words and names originating from them. They often have meanings behind them, too.

For other people - and possibly me if I get stuck on names - there are many sources online that generate words and names for you. Here's some you could have a look at:

Hope they help in any way at all.
Good luck with any story you write!

i slam my shins to the corner of my wall and record the sounds I scream out when I drop down in pain. after recovery, I put the recording in an algorithm, splice them up like a tossed salad, then run it through a broken pair of headphones while I transcribe everything I heard into a notepad taped to the back of a hamster.

whatever I write out that resembles a name, I use it.

Fantasy name generator for names. Google some lore of mythologies for any cool creatures or stories to use.

Or I read my favorite books again. Find a book with the same genre as my own, see what they did.

Theres really little excuse for not at least reading a little bit to find examples, tho tracking those examples down may take some work even if you dont read the entire story

I use dnd, mmo games, history, or whatever Google searches turn up.

I'm a huge fan of significant names (ie "Faith" used for a priest, Cat for someone with feline traits, etc). Sometimes used ironically (Tiny the giant).

This is slightly different than what most authors do, but I usually pair my characters' names with their personality. Just taking an example from my current work: my MC's name is Shun. Unless you know Asian names well, you will probably think of the English definition instead. And MC is a loner in his past life, shunning everyone around him due to his insecurities until his death.

Makes it more unique than going to some random generator for names, but that's just my opinion

If you're asking about world building resources, world building needs to come from your own mind. You can borrow themes, moteifs, names, and characters. In order to do this, you need to be VERY well read in classical literature. Study the best works of the great myths of old.

In my case, I took the Babylonian Enuma Elis, as well as a few figures from the wider Babylonian mythos that I looked up online. I also incorporated the 4 guardians of the world in Chinese mythology, rolling in Zhūquè with the pheonix and the fire bird, and also making a few modifications to the others that brought all but the white tiger a little closer to their original lore than their popular modern fantasy portrayal.

(Hey, if you have a dragon, a sea serpent, and a pheonix as the other 3, you have to do something to make the 4th one a little more interesting than being a tiger.)

I borrowed a little bit from native American lore with the 2 wolves fighting each other, and turned one of the wolves into a tiger. A black wolf and a white tiger forever fighting one another.

This is the kind of world you can build if you have exposure to all of the ancient myths. It is up to you to study ALL of them and figure out what aspects you can fit into your world. It is also up to you to make the appropriate adjustments to those myths in order to make them thematically fit your world better and have a logical reason for being there.

And, yes. For names, you either find a name generator or you come up with the names yourself.

In my case, I went REALLY hard-core. I made my own custom language, and all the names I give my characters are actually words in that language that have some kind of meaning. For instance, Duloki means "Tree of Joy." Isuzu means "One who sees." You do not need to go to that insane extent, but it is an example of just how much can be put into world building.

Find a character’s attribute, I.E. wise, and then what they will do, I.E. helper, then put those words through google translate until you find a good name. If your combination of words doesn’t work find new words. In this one helper didn’t work, so I switched it to aide. After switching places, aide wise, I translated it into Armenian and got Ognakan Imastun. You can translate one word in one language than the other in another.
So I translated aide into German giving me Berater, with a full name of Berater Imastun.

Resources about worlds and myths, you can find them on google. Just search for it. As for names, ah, I’m not very good at naming, but I use this RPG name generator in the AppStore or something like that.

Or maybe, you can just use different language and play around with the words. Also, Wikipedia and fandom are your friend~ ??

Don't know if it will help but I occasionally use https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ It has a bunch of categories and if you splash in a bit of google translate to make your names sound cooler you got it. (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

fantasy name generator is a great tool for coming up with names

Also donjon is good with names, and even character background ideas if you're in need of inspiration.

I'm too lazy to look up individual sources and repeat it somewhere. Thankfully got it saved! Some ScribbleHubpages with links.

To be honest I just bullshit my way through all my info of names of item and stuff picking the best ones that suit the tone that I'm going for or search for some via fandom wiki, but mostly it's just "random bullshit go!" For me.
