I understand that, just asking people to be a bit nicer. That's not too much to ask I hope. It's not like I'm living rent free after all, the whole get a job response is funny but I already have one.

Idk, this is a forum for authors and I'd like to get to know some authors here, maybe even make some internet friends :) but when people respond like so, it gives the wrong impression. Some blunt answers are fine, but frequent bluntness seems a bit hostile.

I'm not hostile, just trying to get to know people here and be open and friendly.

Wasn't begging, I've been putting my effort for quite a while. Was just asking for some direction on something. I have a job :p

Ah that's unfortunate x) but good to know I suppose. No matter, getting some donations for my hobby would be greatly appreciated but I didn't come into this anticipating to make a living out of my hobby, as great as that would be heh.

Thanks for the insight! ?
Don't worry about it dude, I have a worse time too.

I know that you will consider this reply as a rude one, but everything people wrote to you really ain't that rude. Do you want an example of rude reply? This is not a troll or sarcastic question, I can really show you if you want to.

Princess, chill. You'll get me all hot and bothered.

No.

People can think of me as sensitive or whatever but I'm really just aiming for the whole treat people as you'd like to be treated thing. We are all writers that share the same interest in writing. I'd prefer if we get along and maybe get to know one another over time.

You can't be friends with everyone of course. And sure, the replies aren't that bad but that's not the point. I'd rather not get a demonstration of what rude really is, I've lived through enough of that.

Just in case, I was not talking about insulting you, or writing something rude. I was thinking of quoting someone else.

???

All the more reason you shouldn't ask this way. Mind you that this forum is for creating content. The nature of this site isn't business minded compared to royal road and webnovel. Most people do it for fun, so your resquest itself is odd here. Would you really want to ask these strangers for financial advice?? It's ok to ask how to monetize your writing, even asking to raise funds in general would be ok. The former will have some reliable information, the latter will less likely have profound answers.
I'm not sure how much this will help but any sort of funding would be appreciated. I will likely open up something Sunday night.
But this was clearly asking people, who most likely didn't read your story to give you money. This wasn't a medical emergency. If you needed a laptop for work, your workplace would've been your first station to ask. Obviously the urgency wasn't that high. Despite that, you asked here, a public space, when you clearly aren't close with people yet. This is by definition, begging. At least in my opinion.

I wasn't aware that there was a correct way, I wasn't outwardly demanding anything I was trying to start a funding thing for myself and wanted to ask for some direction. What would you suggest to be the correct way of asking?

Ah that's good to know actually :)

I'm not a stranger to rudeness or hostility. Some of the responses were helpful but I wasn't aware that asking for direction about setting up a fund was seen as wrong or taboo to do in a public setting. I was looking toward a patron or Ko-Fi account, and I'm new to this whole profiting thing so I was hoping for some guidance on what to do moving forward there. I'll just figure it out on my own now. I didn't know that asking was a no~no here ?

You know what, I am actually curious now. What was it that user said?

Someone asked for feedback for their first story and got this in return. "This story is like the definition of slop someone shit out their ass."

Now you can judge for yourself whether dry and blunt replies here are rude, or as blunt as you initially have thought.

This forum forbids solicition. Unless it's a business orientated space, people will always frown upon it. The essence of your request was where to post it on the forum for traffic. That itself was wrong.

Example: Hello, I'm graduating soon and need a new laptop. I already have a job, but fincances are tight. I want to open a patreon and kofi, but I'm grateful if anyone knows alternatives for donations.

SEE, no solicition. Before there was a wall of text which read like a sob story. Don't blame people for thinking so, the pattern is similar to shmeless scams that come in spam emails. Instant negative impression.

Hmm, that is definitely a rude comment but it's outwardly rude and hostile with no intent for being subtle. In simpler terms, it's easy to identify.

It would hurt, and it would hurt more if more people were to agree with it. But I don't think rudeness applies to whats mean or what's not, there are levels of intensity to them. Sometimes people can be rude to someone without meaning to through a comment or remark that may seem casual to someone else.

It's not as bad as I was expecting truth be told x) but I'm glad it isn't either. I hope this implies that there's not many plain negative comments on the forums here :)

Hm, I see. Of course I could have worded it better, but I am unfamiliar with these scams or spam emails. I can take mention to add more details in the future, I didn't think or anticipate that people would react in that manner when to me, I was just asking for a bit of guidance navigating how donations are made.

If people are still willing to add their advice it would be nice. This sounds like a misunderstanding if your words speak for everyone else from the first page of responses. I was considering just figuring it out on my own again because of the feedback, but if people are willing to share some advice about it that would be greatly appreciated.
