So I watched Naruto a long time ago and my memory about certain events or things have been made askew by fanfics over the years but one thing, the one thing that stays strong is my hate for Itachi.
To understand my dislike for this creature that for some reason everyone likes( actually it's because he was shown to love sasuke who is one of the MC's for Naruto that everyone loves him) we need to start from the beginning.
It started many years before our protagonist was born( or basically it started with him because it was basically his past life but I can't blame Naruto or Sasuke for what they did in the same vein as I would not blame Aang for a mistake Kyoshi made). The Sage of Six paths Hagamoro had two sons. Ashura and Indra.
Ashura was a sunny kid with a good personality who was friends with everyone even though he wasn't that talented. While Indra the older one was the edgy teenager who thought he was better than everyone( the guy would have loved wattpad so many kindred souls that find). During the time to inherit their father's property( the ninshu sect) Hagamoro passed over the older and more talented son and chose his second son who cherished bonds( Ya know i can't blame him for choosing Ashura, this is a management position of course you'll choose the one with good interpersonal relations and good social skills). Long story short Indra got mad and fought his younger brother but had his ass handed to him by the power of friendship and a very big wooden gundam.
This property beef got so heated that their families beefed with each other and then their children who would later form the two major clans the Uchiha and the Senju. The Uchiha and the Senju would then go on to clash over the years( they didn't even know their family history but they just hated each others guts instinctively) with these clashes headed by the reincarnations of the two big babies who refuse to reconcile.
This had been going on and on in an endless cycle until two prodigies showed up in their respective camps( Daddy Hashirama and his side boo Madara) I can't remember how they reconciled but I know they killed each others brothers or some stuff like that but yeah even with all that beef they managed to set aside their differences and come together( after Madara got beat up).
The story had reached a turning point here where a series of events led to a very very avoidable tragedy. Madara agreed to work together to form a village with Hashirama where young children would not have to see the terrors of war( that part failed spectacularly the village actively trains child soldiers) with one condition that he (Madara) would be the leader.
See this shit is like a twisted cycle the whole conflict started with the tussle for the leadership of the Ninshu sect and Ashura won which led to serious hatred from his petty older brother and now Madara was also asking for the leadership of the newly formed village. Hashirama didn't even consider it a problem and readily agreed to this condition and yet when the time came to elect Madara as the leader of the village, the other small clans that also wanted to join the village with the two strongest clans in history rejected it.
Like WTF is this a proposal it was a condition. It's like drawing up a peace treaty with a rival country where your only obligation is to let them be in charge for a while. In reality there is no such stupid treaty but the two who were the clan leaders and represented their respective clans agreed, then suddenly some guys who are completely unrelated come in and start clamouring that they cannot accept it. Bro if you can't accept it leave it's not the Senju and the Uchiha that begged you to come you chose to join in at least respect the opinions of the founders. The funny thing is that Hashirama was like ok sure I will destroy the foundation of our mutual trust because some strangers came in and said they don't like it.
So once again Indra loses in the political struggle seriously this is a recurring theme in this show. Madara got caught in Zetsu's trap and ran off to go complete some eye of the moon plan or whatever and asked the Uchiha to join him. Now I can't blame the Uchiha for not joining him. He literally asked them to abandon the peace and security living in Konoha brought and asked them to wander around with him. Even though he was the strongest Uchiha in history he was also a psychopath who dug out his younger brothers eyes to gain stronger power so he could defeat his rival Hashirama ( I don't know why but anime rivalries always seemed so gay, like the sexual tension ??).
Anywho in this instance the Uchiha chose Konoha and refused to move with Madara but what did Tobirama remember he conveniently chose to forget the Uchiha that stayed but only remembered that Madara betrayed the village.
Tobirama was a strange man as Hashirama's brother and the second strongest Senju he had an abundance of talent and a genius intellect which he invested mostly in inventing jutsu to counter the Uchiha ( yeah he made many other jutsu like the flying thunder god and the something something reincarnation but he also made a lot of jutsu that targeted the Uchiha). Call it hatred call it wariness but Tobirama did not like the Uchiha. Maybe it was because the Uchiha killed all his other brothers maybe it was because of the instinctive repulsion of two opposite attributes ( the Senju are mostly Yang in nature which usually connotes the sun, heat, light and well in Naruto settings is basically the physical aspect of chakra while the Uchiha are primarily Yin) I don't know what it was but he didn't like them.
It was him who gave the Uchiha the position of the police force to maintain law and order. Most speculate it was a calculated move on his part because almost every where in the world people hate the police.
Tobirama went on to collect talented ninja's who he would train to be his disciples. Those where Danzo, Hiruzen who would later become the third hokage and the other two who for the life of me I can never remember their names. Now Hashirama was dead because of an illness( what kind of perverse illness could kill a guy that had so much vitality that almost 50 years after his death his cells were used to treat people). Tobirama's disciples would go on to inherit his hate for the Uchiha even though I'm not sure they knew why they were supposed to hate the Uchiha.
Tobirama died killed by the goldhorn and silverhorn brothers and his team of bodyguards which also included an Uchiha died with him( was that Uchiha guy a disciple too?).
With Tobirama's death came the reign of the third Hokage, the professor Hiruzen. While I don't think he restricted the Uchiha much during his reign the Uchiha didn't have much say in the affairs of Konoha. They even had only one vote on the council for the village and that in the vein of the Uchiha clan leader. Like isn't law enforcement important. The Uchiha clan mostly kept quiet because Konoha was too damn strong. Danzo and the other Tobirama's disciples. The other clan heads, the three senin, white fang of the leaf. At that time Konoha was really deserving of it's position as the undisputed strongest among the five great villages.
With Sakumo's suicide, the nine tails rebellion and other events happening like orochimarus defection, Tsunade's hemophobia and Jiraya running around looking for the son of prophecy, Konoha was at its weakest point in history. With this while the Uchiha weren't strong enough to take on all of.the village alone they weren't without a fighting chance.
Look at the contrast here the force that has been oppressing you for so long is at it's weakest while we are still strong so it was only natural they would want to seek more benefits for themselves and yet they were suppressed even more.
Even after they were ordered to leave their ancestral land and move out of the village the Uchiha didn't fight back sure there were voices within the clan to seize power. So at this point there was a factional dispute here but the Uchiha never intended to rebel heck the clans patriarch even named his son Sasuke which was the name of the third Hokage's father to show they were on his side. He even sent his eldest son the future clan head to work for the hokage. There are fewer concessions lower than this unless what Konoha wanted was for them to put leashes on their necks and admit to being dogs.
Now I have detailed the history and the background surrounding the conflicts and it should be around here I expand on Itachi and his involvement and how much of an asshole he is but looking at my very long essay, if I linger on this topic for longer I will probably spend another hour on this and my frustration is mostly vented.
I don't know if anyone needs my opinion on this you can probably just ask I'll be glad to expand on that but for now I need sleep.
