I may have asked before but anyone thought of side stories?

I keep thinking some support characters deserve side stories - but some of them (e.g. The Crimson King or even Equinox in Strange Awakening) are only support or "tier 2 lead" characters because I am not sure I could write them well enough to justify more than that!

I have plans to make some in the future. Short 16 - 24k words of a side story covering some important event or invention that really delves deeper into the lore of the world and expands on the worldbuilding. But these would be Patreon rewards and not posted as part of the main story.

Normally my side characters take two paths.
Either I write some bonus chapters and write short stories about them, or I'm writing a book series and I try to show the surface of my side characters that will have their own stories in the next books in the series.
For example, I'm working on a novel series for hard copy called "Straight to fairy tales," Which are stories about two men who, one or both of them, think they're straight until they meet each other.
In each book, there are at least two or three side characters that play a small part and they eventually get their own book in the series.

Maybe the first option fits better with what you wrote.

Another thing I like is to play "What If" with my characters. You know, because sometimes you finish a book and after a while you just miss your characters ?
So I write a bonus chapter and put them through a "What If" situation just to bring them back to life once more.

Sections that don’t fit into the flow of the story. Dialogue said between characters that don’t fit into the flow of the main book.

I’m thinking about it.
If you have the time. My time is mostly taken up writing the main stories. Maybe if there was a fan and I enjoyed thier writing and could trust them to do side stories with my characters, then hell yes. Otherwise, I'm too busy.
