I was hallucinating pregnant catgirls at the 20-hour mark. It was hilarious.
Well, I got beaten into a coma about 28 years ago. Turns out part of the hypothalamus was damaged and now I can't sleep without medication. And no, not that lunesta crap. That just paralyzes me. So I lie there, struggling to breathe, wide awake, but unable to move.

BTW, people who suffer from being exposed to an explosion before they hit 25, and basically get hit with blast pressure, like anyone hit with an IED, the insomnia won't set in for years. if you do find yourself suffering from it, and you know before age 25 you were, basically knocked out cold and spent at least an hour unconscious, look into Provigil. It has a contrary effect on people unable to sleep do to chemical imbalances. Other people it wakes them up, but for me, it allows me to sleep.

I could explain the reason why, but there isn't much point. It'll either help ya, or it won't.

Remember, statistically only 40% of all drugs actually help the patient as prescribed. So always shop around when treating any condition to see if an alternate works more effectively.

I don't start having hallucinations until around the 70 hour mark. Then it's usually just demons and voices and shit.
That's criminal on the part of the employer.
Heh. I work for the government. It's not illegal if NYS does it.

The longest I've gone without sleep is 94 hours due to my medical condition. After that, it was a small sleep, and I was back to it.
Try provigil when you are supposed to wake up. It was developed by the Army for people to go on 24 hour patrols. However, if you have a chemical imbalance causing your insomnia, Provigil tells your brain "You had a good night sleep", but it also seems to 'straighten out' other issues, so you can sleep.

I have found that it's temperature related. When you want to go to sleep, put on a wool hat. As soon as your brain heats up a degree or two, you'll go out like a light.

The problem is, it's an off label use. You'll have to make up an excuse and go through a specialist to get it prescribed. Say you work night shift or something.
Not an option.
Dude you working in ER? Where's the fucking shift?
I work for NYS with the mentally and physically disabled. Thanks to the brain trust raising the minimum wage in the state, and the new Zero tollerance policy, where you can go to jail for an accusation (thus allowing coworkers willing to lie the ability to yeet anyone they hate.) it is next to impossible to get anyone to work here.

Of, they like the beneifits package and whatnot, but when the job involves people trying to kill you, and LEGALLY CANNOT BE CHARGED WITH A CRIME, people don't tend to stick around. Especially since HR thinks that men are evil and actively discriminate against them.

And no, not kidding. I know people in HR who tell me they are told by Albany to avoid hiring men, even though the clients are strong enough to toss me around, and I'm 220 lbs.

So, on weekends like, fathersday, everyone calls in. Except me and a few other nut jobs. Then they start mandating people from one house to another to cover shifts. So everyone winds up on doubles... then triples...

Then these new kids just say, 'Fuck it' and when they leave one house, they don't show up at the other. They just go home.

I'm the only male in this house and I do the overnight. 1 person on the overnight. 3 people are supposed to be here in the morning. Everyone calls in. And so I have to cover the house alone, eventually I get someone to help, but we're still below minimums and nobody to mandate from somewhere else because they're already screwed. So I just stay.

Why? Because the girls who work here have families and I'm living alone with my wife now. So I just skip taking the meds that let me sleep and power through, so that the rest of the staff willing to show up can be limited to only working doubles.

Oh. In case yer wondering, I've finally got to the night shift, again, so I actually have time to answer you guys now.

No. However, one of the clients is suffering from both dementia, and hallucinations, and gets paranoid as fuck when the ghosts try to kill him. I cannot count how many times he has come to me in the middle of the night to tell me he was killed, then he describes exactly HOW he was killed, in a rather gruesome fashion, usually, then I get to explain to him, "I'm not dead, and you are talking to me, so it's really unlikely that you are currently dead."

Him trying to escape out the window? That was new.

And when something NEW happens, OH BOY, does the paperwork become a bitch. I will say this about NYS, the clients only get to do something insanely stupid once. Then it gets corrected. NOW.

Ain't nobody opening that window again. EVER. Except for the emergency release installed, that will only be triggered when the fire alarm is tripped.

I can verify that the HR in mental health is nuts. My friend was going to school to become a social worker. They hooked him up with a job at a place called trillium family services while he was in school.

The weird thing was that most of his coworkers were attractive young women.
His clients though...
Sex offenders.

He said it was the darkest place he'd ever been.

Yeah... I... don't get it. I really don't. I did the MH side for a while with a private outfit. I told the clients, hey, I'm here and awake all night, come talk to me any time. And they did. Boy. Most of my nightmares are from that place.

Ah well, bed checks and back to writing.
