Do people like plot-driven stories or character-driven stories?

With my story I think I'm doing half-and-half

I would say character driven is the slightly more important one. It would be easier to read something that was all character driven all the time than it would be to read something that was all plot driven all the time.

I like them both, and in every story, both elements are important.
You can have superb characters, but if the world is lacking, the story itself will be mediocre at best. Similarly, the other way -- you can have the best worldbuilding and plotline, but if characters are flat, they will ruin the story.

Character driven is like picking a hero which is compatible with you. You will hate him for his skills or love that he would fit into your playstyle and how fun he would be to play as.

Plot driven is like how the match starts. There is the destination but how to progress depends on how the game will go. Will it turn into a simple crash and burn or an epic, fun-mashed game that would keep any person entertain for the entire playthrough.

For viewers, either type can be appreciated depending on how entertaining the game would be. The readers are like spectators who are watching a match and depending the hype value, the game would go either how it is played to be a cool and epic match or bore and headache inducing it would be.

Personally, I prefer how the author would take the story into a fun and enjoying read. Even if the plot is boring or the characters are generic, as long as he can entertain himself and how we can enjoy his creativity.

Character driven all the way. Plot is absolutely important it is definitely as if not more important then characterization of your cast but a good plot can only go so far if you're characters are shit then people will lose interest in the story and stop reading whereas the plot can be a little weak but if your characters have depth and emotional development then they will stay. You can write a fanfiction that dozens have written similar stories about (so weak plotwise) but if the way you write your characters is novel and interesting then people will continue reading because it may be the same song but the dancers are intriguing on their own. Good luck with your writing.

:meowsip: Most here say character driven, but I think the vast majority of stories are in secret plot driven even when supposedly character driven. The veneer is just better sometimes.

I always prefer plot driven, but the characters must be interesting, independent of the plot.
:blob_aww: Plot~.

Both can be good and better but it just depends on whether or not you make it interesting or not whether its plot or character driven. Do you make it interesting by focusing on plot or characters? That's basically what it is.

There shouldn't be a difference, the characters should define and direct the plot and the plot should challenge and grow the characters. A story is about people undergoing challenge and how they grow and change and adapt. The plot matters because it's happening to the characters, and we watch the characters because they are faced with struggle and the need to grow due to the plot.

Characters without a plot are stagnant, and a plot without characters is a textbook. Divesting either from the other is an act of foolishness.
