I have a Problem...

I'm quite new to the writing scene and I have a problem, When I'm writing a character saying something, I always write their dialogue then end it with this.
An Example:

"Then what do you want me to do Prince?" Aika said as she asked the Prince what her task was.

the word said is very over used in my writing and it gets repetitive that I, myself feel bored when reading it.

Please give advice to this poor sod.

Said is fine, you can wary it a bit with things like asked/confirmed/murmured/ and many other flavours of speech. Just remember not to go too far down the other side and overuse these words either.

The issue in the provided example isn't really said it's the latter part - you are essentially retelling exactly what she said once again, which make it sound slow and repetitive.

Try this:

"Then what do you want me to do Prince?" Aika asked.

The information is still there, there is no "said" which you can use elsewhere, and it doesn't feel repetitive or long-winded
