Just a few minutes ago I felt like starting a new story. There was one that looked like it had potential, so I was about to click on chapter 1 when I got a nagging feeling that something wasn't right, so I clicked on the author. The author had the "well-known author" tag, which might be a good sign, so I checked out the series he or she has made, and that's when I saw 6 stories, all incomplete, 4 of them in permanent hiatus.

The author almost got me. Writing more stories only to never finish any of them. I swear they do it on purpose. This author can see that all of the stories he or she has posted gained a decent amount of readers, but then the author will just abandon it.

Because they did not plan their stories and reached a point where they can't continue with just feels. A proper book requires a decent framework of the story.

1. It gets more difficult as lore and character count expands because the number of things to keep track of increases. Make sure to keep your lore and character notes in order, especially if he story is complicated. The first half kilometer of marathon is exhilarating but then the rest becomes a slog. Finishing a story is a thousand times harder than starting one.

2. Authors have to love the worlds they create the most. Because unless they are using AI to write for them and just quickly editing it, they have to spend the most time in their world. Sometimes authors fall out of love with their world and writing becomes work, even if the world is entertaining to others the author may no longer enjoy writing it. *These are often the authors who will start multiple new stories without finishing*

3. Some authors are attempting to build a following or get to a point where they can write for a living. When that fails, they burn out. Understand that readers are ambivalent to this at best, bigger names don't want upstarts in their space, and the market is not in the favor of the creator.

4. Number go down sickness. Authors are not immune to it even those with a high reader count. Having a bad metric and review week, month, year and not seeing growth can kill motivation.

5. Things happen, people die, life gets in the way, there is no time to write.

6. The webnovel growth formula demands endless output. Thus finished stories get thrown into the pit of obscurity in most places. This encourages writers not to finish their works or write exceedingly long demanding stories.

7. The writer is writing some degenerate smut and they had to bleach their eyes after the last chapter they wrote, thus they can write no more. lol jk.

Boy, haha, I hope it's not me. ahahaha. Sounds exactly like me. I'm hoping it's not me. Down to the tags, the hiatuses, and the story count.:blobspearpeek:
For the love of all that is holy, finish a story! My reaction to seeing a story that has potential be abandoned.

This unnamed author doesn't have to worry about that because all the stories have 5-18 chapters. There is barely anything to keep track of.

Those authors shouldn't publish then; keep them in that hard drive or cloud.

3. Some authors are attempting to build a following or get to a point where they can write for a living.
That is the wrong reason to become a writer; if your sole goal is to make money, then you won't make it in any artist's industry.

This author is well known. People are reading the stories; they want more.

The author just started two new ones as he or she abandoned the first four.

This also encourages one to not leave a work in infinite hiatus. Checkmate!

I feel personally called out.... I've written some dark smut in my time and have been going more towards fluff smut as an opposite to dark themes. Abusive childhood counterbalancing a fluff-smut romance between the MC and LI.

Some autors don't keep character notes and are too lazy to read their own story again. *Still better than having AI write it*
Those authors shouldn't publish then; keep them in that hard drive or cloud.
Yeah, they're not going to do that.

If it's any consolation, I'll make sure to finish all my stories.

And remaster them all to futa smut just before I complete them. lol jk.

The average muzzle velocity of a bullet ranges from around 1,700 mph (1,200 m/s) for rifle bullets to 784 mph (1,150 fps) for typical pistol rounds so you lied

Some authors seemingly don't keep *any* notes or read what they wrote before, and then have major inconsistencies from one chapter to the next.
Keep background files, it's very easy to forget small but important details!

Sometimes being Autistic, having ADHD and a memory of a goldfish is something to consider, especially having a fragile ego the size of a suicidal person would get the better of me. Despite having many good reviews to my stories, a single negative review would spiral me into thinking that I'm a bad author, to consider dropping my stories, and to even start thinking of suicide altogether.

Despite having the mentality to be a good therapist, I never consider that my ego to be as fragile as paper(considered glass until I underestimate its hardness).

Every pantser is like: "This man is a liar!" lol
As a panster writing the fifth and final book of his first series... (unless this bit runs long enough I need to make a sixth)

Of course, as soon as I had figured out who my primary antagonist was going to be, I had a scope and end point for my story. I also allowed myself to entirely abandon an arc of traveling for the MCs because it didn't fit in a time frame before the antagonist would take an action that would provoke the MCs into focusing on them instead of thinking of the antagonist as a somewhat distant threat that could be dealt with later.

One of the tricks I have discovered for being a panster is that you need to be able to cut away story arc ideas that you had, or even just specific scenes and events, if they don't fit.

And then if you kept notes as you went, you sometimes find a place to revamp a scene someplace it would fit better.

Um...as a past writer (Wattpad one) who once abandoned several perfectly popular novels with decent views and comments...

I was embarrassed of my work, okay? It happens to people. You reread your stuff, and realize it was the worst slop ever written, that should have never entered public eye. But the views are there, you can't delete it! Editing? The entire story needs a complete do-over, and you cannot physically look at even the setting without wanting to die of shame. So you move on to the next novel, hoping...it gets better...NOPE!

...this may be the case.

Well, I haven't "abandoned" anything, just placed some on hiatus while others took my focus...
Cycles swing around...

Relatable, considering how most authors are not sane people (because no sane person would write stories)
