I like your theology.

Please, I apologize but I won't request of you to accept it, but I do ask for understanding in that I have personal reasons where I cannot respond towards those questions (it hurts thinking about it). I simply ask for you to excuse me from this obligation to answer.
I mean no offense. This thread is about advice to a noob. I am merely typing what I wish someone had told me when I started writing. It would have saved me years of stumbling in the dark.

I guess my point is, if you are 'doing this just for fun and your own amusement, then you don't need writing advice. You know what is fun, do that. If it's not fun, don't do it.

But I don't think of that as 'writing'.

For me, writing is communication. I am attempting to convey information to another in a medium that has limited bandwidth. I cannot express myself fully the way I wish. I must write, but the words, the font, the order, the italics, the capital letters, the bending of the 'rules', the breaking of the rules, the number of spaces between paragraphs, the use of a comma or a period. All of this is like painting. It's like cooking. It's like art. It's communicating ideas from me to you in a fashion where I am limited by the very nature of what I am doing. I may enjoy this, but I am not doing it for ME.

I am doing this for someone else. They asked me a question and I feel the need to answer them. It also is to those who come later to read this hours, days, years later. Will my ideas find fertile ground? I hope so. I wish these ideas to grow because I feel they will benefit others. I like building and creating order. I hate destruction and loss. Here, what I type is a donation. My time. I could be spending this time doing something else. Eating. Writing more of my story I am procrastinating from. I am organizing my thoughts. Writing this is of some profit for me.

But when I write for someone else, I am asking for something. If I am really good, I ask for money and sell my story. Right now, I am asking for the reader's time. I get enjoyment from knowing the readers enjoy the story, but I am still ASKING FOR SOMETHING. Time might be nothing to you, but for me, it is the single most important thing I have. I crave time. I need more time. My time is precious to me.

I knew a man who was a client and he was a hoarder. We discussed the crap he was collecting and he could tell me the value of everything he had. Each item had a value and he could explain it. However, he had so much and no way to properly store it, so it was rotting and decaying, and getting damaged. He had piles of junk, but he knew the value of every single piece. I managed to get through to him with one question:

What is the value of empty space?

Empty space has value. It is a place you COULD store something more valuable. It is a place you could put something safely to use it later. It is the potential to act on opportunities in the future. If empty space has value, is the empty space here on this desk more than the floor? Is the space in your freezer more valuable then space of a shelf? If this empty space has value, and the existence of empty space conflicts with these things you have, you must choose. Are these items worth more than the empty space they occupy?

Once I got that system of value in his head, it was very, very PAINFUL. Suddenly he had to resolve all this junk. But slowly, so slowly, we managed to throw out all the junk that wasn't worth the empty space it was occupying.

Writing is like being a hoarder.

The words you write occupy space. That empty space has a value. Writing has a cost. Every word has a cost. A moment of time is lost reading this very sentence. Are the words I have written worth the time I have stolen from you? Have I given more than I have taken? I worry about these things, because I wish a world better then I found it. I wish to look back on my life and have it be something that, maybe not proud of...

but at least I wish to be satisfied.

Being a writer is important. It isn't just a word. It is the most important word. It is the word YOU need to know what it means most of all. It is the only word you MUST get right. If you don't... you can't get anything else correct. Your whole purpose of writing falls apart if you don't know what a writer is.

So...

What is a writer?
What are you?

Hey there people I am Sageash who started posting my story recently any tips for me~~? I give virtual cookies for tips ?:blob_cookie:
1) Have MC have IQ, have EQ
2) People are tired of cliches, and is popular to have anti-cliches or MC knowing the cliches from past life
3) Interact with your readers and sometimes listen to their oppnions/suggestions.
4) Accept even people exposing the flaws or giving a bad note. AS LONG they make senses
5) Ask for help for stuff if needed
6) (Half dark joke) Complain with other authors about not having a "Add chapter" as you finish editing one chapter. Or not having the tagging system of allied NU
7) (Joke) Go to nearest police station without resistance. Cookie is a weapon of mass destruction banned by the genova convention
8) Read, read, and read more to get experience of what looks attractive and what is not
9) Ask some close people to try your chapters before release
10) YOLO so always be cautious
11) Keep your mentality as a reader as you write your series
12) Later on, try rereading your own series, forgetting you are the creator of it
13) Have a attractive cover, have a attractive summary, find a way to advertise, and finally, aim to write wholesome stuff and not remind us of the shitty real life, where (most) humans are trash. Even me included.
[A certain futanari series became popular, even shocking it's author, mostly because it's wholesome, and the author is talented)
14) Try writing what you crave to BUT also try to think carefully about what wants the audience. But writing what you truly want to, allow to exceed limits sometimes. Even if it's unpopular theme. A certain novel (nickname "RI") is a CN acclaimed because author wanted to write a "evil" MC despite his country banning any "evil MC" novel. Popular also because he was only one and public craving for it because of censoring. + Author is really really good and the MC had really high IQ.
15) Having your readers' emotions being influenced is a path of success. But to not abuse
[Lot of CNs about a manga-artist-or-anime-creator MC, plagia lot of animes, and interestingly, most masterpiece JP animes are sad ones or got a sad part. COUGHCLANNADSteinsGateLittlebustersPlasticMemoriesPikachusacrificeatbeginningCOUGH ]

I
Read the FAQ first. It really helps. Then, read @Yorth's guides to publishing your story and using the functions in the text editor effectively.

Wait. Even more important is to read the Rules of the Forum and Content Guidelines.

If you have any questions, you can post them in Scribble Hub Discussion or General Chat, quite often.

On top of everything, you can check out this profile, @WelcomeToSH, to find a directory of helpful links.

Last, but not least... you should probably add your story to your signature. It helps attract people.
I didn't got that your signature thingy ?
Writing is as much work as playing with my child around the playground set pieces. Some people find that a chore, but I discovered joy in it.
?
Write as many stories as you can! Trust me, it will work...

....I mean, it's working for me, right?
thanks senior ? :blob_cookie:

Have fun and enjoy writing is all I have to say. If you want to ask feedback. User will either indirectly point it out or just watch in silent as they see you mature and improve your writing overtime. :blob_hide:

When writing, do not care about the views, it will increase as times past. Just do what your good at. Ask tips from the all-knowing senpais here who has knowledge in some of their genre field they're good at if you have to ask about it. :blobtaco:

Lastly, welcome comrad.
