I'm wondering what y'all think about funny fantasy stories? Do you like or not? What would you like to see in such stories?
Would you like such a story to include harems and/or smut? Would that work? I'm just interested to know...it'll help with my writing going forward. I want to write stories that people want to read. Thanks

I don't like funny stories but SH readers in general like them. Harem and\or smut is also well recieved here.

I mean Kono Suba is one of my favourite animes and it ticks all the boxes you mentioned. Its set in a fantasy world with magic and monsters. It has a harem setting and darkness one of the LI is like a masochist so it does get a little echi as well. And its not just one of my favourites its a really popular anime so clearly people enjoy that kind of stuff.

And from my time spent here at SH smut seems to almost always do well as well. Even more so if its Fanfic smut.

Comedy is extremely subjective and as such hard to write, but I don't think that that should dissuade you from trying your hand in it. None of the genres you listed are mutually exclusive, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. That being in my opinion all stories should be approached with a degree of serioussness, and oftentimes I find the comedic element taking away from the seriousness, or the other way around. Ideally they should work together, building upon each other. Which is easier said than done, of course. Just some thoughts

Yeah! You're right. The balance has to be right, and even then not everyone will find it funny.
Create an authentic story that represents your original work instead of adding unhealthy fan service.
Yes, I have. I don’t write harem or smut, but I needed to know if that was the only way my story could be popular on here. However, according to everyone, it seems it's not, which is great!
I’ll like it if the funny part is actually funny (for me at least)
Yes, which, of course, is very subjective. ?
Thanks everyone. I have a story out that is a balance of humour and seriousness, where the humour is organic, not forced or slapstick, there's no smut or harems, and it's already written, if anyone is interested.
I'm writing my next one and will use your comments, so thanks again!

It is really hard to maintain a humorous attitude in a long story. I prefer stories WITH humor but not focusing on humor, unless the author is VERY good...
Might read a humorous fantasy harem story but probably not...
