If the setting was the exact same, and without the consequence of the MC being a non-human, I'd choose human. Medieval fantasy with a mixed world would be an indifferent choice.

Yeah, pretty much depends on the setting and theme of the story for me.

Depends on how it's done, though I guess non-human for me. The issue is that a lot of authors, myself included sometimes, write non-human species/races the exact same as humans. Elves? Just tree-hugging humans with pointed ears. Dwarves? Small humans. But, if it's done well, I'd much rather read about a non-human mc.

Human mc, cause let's be real if the mc is non-human suppose a slime, dog, wolf, dragon or any fantasy creature. At the end of the day they will change into a human form... And that just kills the non-human part of the story... just my opinion though.

Kidding. Mine took a human form just to blend in, but often changed their appearance - male/female switches (I write smut, primarily, and this opens the option to have either gender lover, for most readers). They also kept adding new features from anyone that was important to them. Demon girl is your first friend? Add her horns to your look. Befriended a spider? Now you can spin sticky webs to pay homage to your new friend. Etc. much better, in my opinion, over the usual "I have 1 human look and that is my look."

I was just kidding; you can write whatever genre you want. I think even with a new alias and a non-smut story, you'll have no problem getting readers.

My novel Nowhere to Run has a main human protagonist and a secondary, non-human protagonist. So yeah, I like both.

Eh, misunderstood at first
Is an animal acting like a human nonhuman? For me not.
I like mc that act non-human, ideas outside the norm, crazy from a normal perspective, but with weird logic
Otherwise, there is no difference if they have a human form or not than in small details like eating food raw, and other things

Honestly, I'd probably pick up the non-human mc book first. I find books and novels where the mc gets turned into or reborn as a different creature the most interesting, because they have to adjust to their new body and instincts while maintaining their humanity. That, and I've been wanting to read a litrpg where the mc gets turned into a monster and uses their intelligence and wit with their new power to be either unexpectedly strong, or hilariously over powered. Though, someone did mention that those stories typically have the mc change into a human, and yeah, that does defeat the point of having a non-human mc.
