Back in the day, a game a played let you make backgrounds for your characters. Other players could goto a library and research other players and read their backgrounds. The game even turned these into HTML files so they could be read on a webpage. This webpage was just a folder though, so it showed the file name and the size of the file. So, by how big the file was one could tell who had the longest backgrounds.

I decided to every once and a while take a break from playing and write a bit like a dairy of my character's adventures. (Lea, the character with the longest background did it like journal entries so I blatantly copied her) After a couple years, my character got the biggest background because Lea was no longer playing.

Eventually, the opportunity came up to help make areas for the game. Game development requires lots and lots of little blocks of text. So I did that for a bit and when I first started on scribble hub my goal was to take those journal notes and try to turn it into something readable.

I did horribly drawn Ed, Edd and Eddy comic strips when I was kid in school, and just kinda enjoyed sharing them or having a laugh with them myself. Overtime I realized how much fun it was to just make stories and put them on paper, but since my art never grew I just write instead.

Had a point where all novels/LN/WN etc. just felt unsatisfying. One day I decided that if the story i am looking for doesn't exist, I would just need to create it myself. Been a year since then and three months ago I finally started to upload my first chapters online. Never've been a reader as a kid and started actively writing a year ago. My skills are far from what you call'd call decent, but I guess I am improving, hopefully.

In school I was always pretty good at writing essays, but I hated doing it. I really didn't like writing at all, but after I got out of high-school, I got bored and started making creepy pastas after watching some of them on YouTube. Those stories were terrible, and they were all written down in a notebook. One day after watching an anime I was invested in I went to read the translation. That led me to Novel Updates, and a story from Scribble Hub that was on the NU page intrigued me. I clicked it, and then I went down a rabbit hole of reading great novels, terrible novels, basically anything I could get my hands on (even some really bad isekais). After reading one particularly bad isekai, I picked up writing again, but I was horrible. The story was so badly written, but I kept going anyway. It is sort of ironic that my first proper WN was also a poorly written isekai.

Story-telling.

I was told I had fairly engaging methods by which to tell stories, and since I was pretty much breezing through writing assignments and enjoyed readinga I figured marrying the interests was inevitable. I gave a few drafts a chance before ultimately finding classes abdusting too much of my time to further the interest as anything more than a casual hobby.

However, as I grew I found myself with some extra time and eventually put my money where my mouth was by engaging in several pursuits in the realm of fanfiction. Though they were well regarded, espeically in comparison to other contemporaries, I never truly forgot about my desire to make something of my own.

After a few more changes altered my schedule and indirectly led me to placing those stories on hiatus, I figured there was no better time to try my hand at working on some original Ideas and the rest, as they say, is history.

When it comes to starting to publish stuff it started with writing an Etrian Odyssey fanfic that I feel like I should rewrote and finished at some point. The game's plot is basically an insert-fic so it's a pretty good start I think.

In terms of original stories those were thought about for a long while now and started writing those when I found this site. Never tried to write it down beforehand because I know it's gonna diverge a lot since I think it up for a long while now. Sure as hell not gonna restrict myself to younger me's (even more) convoluted and nonsensical stories.

I've always hated reality, you can make me believe there are a lot of things good in the world but you can't change my mind for "I don't think it's worth it". I would always prefer fantasy, where you can progress with enough effort, or by some stroke of luck, or by getting involved in someone else's scheme.

I wanted to create a world where I could be a being that rules above existence itself, where I could imagine things that I thought would be amazing if they were real.

I've been reading novels for a long time, but I never found one that resonated with me. I always dropped them halfway through, even the good ones. I think it's because I was always looking for something new and exciting.

That's how I got into writing in general. I was a regular guy who was bored with traditional media. I somehow got into anime and devoured it all. I still remember downloading the entire Naruto series on my mobile data, because we didn't have Wi-Fi at home back then.

After anime, I started reading manga. When I ran out of manga to read, I started searching for the stories behind them. That's how I was introduced to novels in general.

I got sick of waiting for proper release or for those translations, and I tasted the venom of machine translation. Then for a long time, I did not manage to find a world that I enjoyed.

One day, I decided that it was time for a new reality to come into existence. Some time passed and here I am, creating my first novel. I don't know where I'll go or how far I'll get, but let's see what happens.
I got bored reading stuff and thought I could do better then others... It kind of worked out.
Massive fan of The Runesmith, but not so much of Unfathomable Senior // the scene where he has to dance to create equipment just devastated my reasoning .. still reading Runesmith tho not actively but really love it .. Thanks for making some of my days in existence.

It's funny how similar your progression is to mine, I also went from anime -> manga -> Light Novels/Webnovels even Machine translations of stories I was interested in to then getting bored and writing something that I didn't see before (Like my xianxia story where the MC isn't a murderhobo like in all xianxia stories I've read before xD)

hmmm... i guess it was a combo of distracting myself after the sudden passing of my mother (once i'd dug out of the six month long funk i was in) as well as following the adage 'write what you want to read'. I've always been a voracious reader since i was very young, being able to lose myself in novels so i guess this was an extension of that in that i could lose myself in crafting a world and a story (when the muse took.)

I was dying of boredom during a remote class in uni. The teacher was going on and on and on and on about the same topic because there was always that one person who was distracted watching videos on youtube followed by some other asking because they now got confused. Anyway, I had nothing better to do besides smacking my head on the table, so I wrote a short story that I then sent through discord to two friends I had in class. They liked it, so I turned that into a novel.
