How was your first story received?

I wonder how your first story was received. I'm genuinely curious about that.

I had created a novel just to learn English. Initially, I received great support in the comments from the writer Baeon on this site. His curiosity and comments were so captivating that I was fascinated by the ability of writing to engage others in my ideas from that point on.

Have you had a Baeon in your careers? That first reader who motivated everything?

And what motivates you to write?

My first novel got a ton of readership, but among the readers it wasn't very well received by many. It had an evil protagonist and all of the things that ensues, but I did get a couple of readers that have stuck with me and inspired me to continue writing. What inspires me to write now is both the love of writing and wanting to make a career out of it. I do not want it to be a hobby forever.

Despite the honestly ass first chapter and the obvious Mary Sue character and me just deciding on a more serious narrative in the middle of the novel, it was quite popular for a first novel.

At first, nothing but crickets.

Then I moved here and posting it daily, it was surprisingly good, despite the issues. But I improved a lot since then.

Very bad. Then I deleted it and started writing a new story for myself and that was pretty well received by most. It wasn't polished but it was consistent.
That's sad, but I'm glad it worked out the second time around. My case was the opposite: my first story went extremely well, but my second one required a remake due to poor decisions. It seems like we have to go through this one way or another, lol.

Wow those are some very good numbers, congratulations on your effort.

Although your beginnings were difficult, you've come a long way. I'd be very proud looking back if I were you. And good luck with your quest to become a professional writer.

Far better than what I expected, and now my readers are just here waiting for chapters that never come :sweating_profusely:
Lol, I can feel it. I entered a hiatus and when I came back there were more than 200 notifications of readers asking for new chapters. I still have chills remembering it.
I hope you were strong and that even though you were ignored it was fun to write.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who made the mistake of changing the tone of the story too much out of nowhere. I still have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote those chapters.

I mean on this website it surprisingly received quite a lot of views.

And it's still ongoing. Well it's actually my third story but I forgot about my first two. My third story was actually my first in this website.

Ai-chan first posted a story on another site. The site readers there were always pretty supportive, but there was one guy who was always extremely supportive. Supposedly, he was retired and read the novels there to pass time and to dream of a different life. He was very supportive, not only to Ai-chan but to every author there. He took pains to write a supportive comment on every chapter that he read. At one point, other users of the site attacked him for giving low-effort one-liner comments but he was always chill and never retaliated. Ai-chan had to admit that at first Ai-chan was happy to receive his comments, but started to ignore his comments and even tuned him out because there were other comments that were a lot more flattering or fun to reply to.

Only later we found out that he had a fatal illness (cancer if Ai-chan isn't mistaken) and while Ai-chan was staying away from the site due to severe depression, we found out from the site owner that he had passed away from his illness. At that time, the site was quite small and the site owner had kept in contact with many of the users in America. They even had meetups from time to time. From the site owner we found out that the guy had died. Ai-chan didn't know until months later. There was a thread made to say goodbye to the guy.

Rest in peace, Stanman. Ai-chan may have never met you, but you were that one guy who always made Ai-chan feel like writing was not a waste of time and that there are people who do enjoy Ai-chan's stories.

I wrote my very first story when i was a kid, just barely a teen, about a cat saving a princess. It was for my uncle, who had spent a number of years telling me bedtime stories. He loved it and I wrote a whole bunch more of them. He always knew I'd get into writing as a career. Thanks, Mike. ?

:blob_teary: Stanman. Trying to find comfort in a fantasy because life was hard, I can't imagine the pain of going through all that. Rest in peace.
Average at best.
That's a beginning :blob_pout:. I remember that I was so happy with my first 100 views, in that time each of the views were precious. I hope you find all the visibility you deserves.

Almost nobody read my stuff, but in another webpage someone did read my third novel that was also my first fantasy and my longest work to this day, and with such desire that I made an alternative ending just for him.

That's cute lol. I wouldn't have the will to write for a single person, my respects. Hope you can get more views.
My story is doing pretty good even though it's not completed yet. Its LitRPG and my MC is given lots of quests
I'm happy you're doing well :D. LitRPG seems like a big thing here, I admire people who can write that. The only genre I am comfortable to write these days is modern fantasy.
