When I was a kid, we put a plastic bag full of ingredients inside a bigger plastic bag filled with ice and salt and squished it around for several minutes.

Making ice cream is actually pretty easy. You just need milk, heavy cream (half and half helps too if you want it less brittle), vanilla extract, and lots of sugar.
Then you just put it in a frozen cold container and mix it until it gets puffy(due to the half and half and the mile cooling off)

I remember doing that in gym class a few years back. (Not sure why, memories are a bit fuzzy). We were divided into groups, each taking turns to shake the bag, and for some reason, our group was the only who failed to make ice cream. I was pretty pissed off because everyone else got to eat their ice cream and we were left with a soggy-ass bag.
