300 page document with hyperlinks to previous chapters and author's notes serving as the only organizational elements.

Depends. I have a problem where I like outlining more than writing, so my outlines are very detailed and that really retracts from the enjoyment of writing.

my newest project I limited myself to outlining 1 sentence per chapter and so far it’s been going better and been enjoyable to write.

Pro Tip on Outlines
Step 1. Make an outline.
Step 2. Proceed to write your chapter without looking at it.
Step 3. Look back at outline and compare.
Step 4. Realize how useless this outline was.
Step 5. Suffer.
Step 6. Go back to step 1. :blob_sir:

I make notes on what the chapters would be like, on the arc, what characters will be in, when to introduce, where they will be going,. The plot. Sometimes the location changes or the I can’t use this McMuffin because it would not fit. So yes, notes. It can be an outline, but it changes as you write.
