How much does a book cover affect views?

I recently commissioned an artist for a book cover and although that was because I wanted one for my first online novel, do you think it effects the novel view in any major way? I've just been using stock photos so I think it will help me in some way but I don't know how much. Then again, maybe it won't do anything and I'll just have to keep writing as much as possible.

And on that tangent, do you think it'd be better to write one long novel or shorter novels. I think that a decently written longer novel would do better because over time it's gain more traction due to word count and getting higher up on the list and perhaps even trending. I don't know how long I'll be writing for, but I hope to keep going at it as a hobby and not overextended myself to the point of burning myself.

Anyways, I've gone on a bit of a tangent but just wanted to write some stuff on forums you know.

As far as I know, people here lean more towards anime covers. They will likely get you clicks, but it's the tags and the actual story that will keep them. Will it do anything of substance? Most likely yes.

I think people here prefer long novels. I'm talking hundreds of chapters and such with a couple thousand words per chapter.

Having a Book Cover definitely has a huge impact on the amount of views you have, when compared to having no cover at all.

Having a Good Cover has a less relevant impact when compared to having an okay cover.

It's really hard to measure this kind of thing.

A longer novel will obviously be more profitable in the long run because you can monetize it for longer without needing to worry about acquiring a new readerbase for your next novel... Assuming that your long novel can get a solid readerbase, of course.

A shorter novel might be a lot more motivating to write, because you have an ending much closer in sight, so you'll feel a like each chapter leads you closer and closer to the conclusion you want to deliver. And finishing a novel is a pretty amazing feeling~

... Which one is better? That's really up to you. If anything, I'd say that, if you're not used to writing, trying to start small with a relatively short novel might do you better, since you'll be able to try things out on your whims more easily than with a longer novel... Even oneshots work for that, for the record.
