How much do y'all re-read your chapters before publishing em?

I recently became self aware that 50%~60% of my writing process is spent re-reading the chapter before posting em xd
Like checking for grammar errors, "should I make more detail in this moment?", "is this explanation necessary?", and such.

So does everyone else do this or just me?

I am not sure about 50-60%...but I usually re-read it 2-4 times before releasing the chapter.

Once. A friend looks over my chapters afterwards, and I also get feedback on Patreon before I release the final chapters. By that point, most mistakes vanish.

Many times. Rereading a chapter you have written is natural especially if you are evaluating your chapter for improvements such as creating a smooth pace, eliminating repetition, simplifying scenes.

I always re-read a chapter at least twice before posting it.

I read the chapter as I write it, if I stall in a scene I'll read the whole chapter again a few times until I decide where I wanna go. after I finish usually read it again then post

About two or three times, but I still miss the occasional spelling mistake :(

My wife reads and provides edit suggestions.

On the day before the chapter goes live, I go through her edit suggestions while re-reading the chapter. This may cause me to add or tweak things not suggested as well as implement most of her suggestions.

This sometimes causes minor typos to creep in, but that is fine. They get pointed out and fixed.

Before PocketFM started asking for chapters, I reread everything at least once, sometimes twice. Now it goes up as soon as its finished, and often needs a good deal of editing later.

I could read like a chapter 2 times but not notice any errors because I’m dyslexic as hell.

2-3 times but my curse is to always spot the typos AFTER I hit publish

so I end up editing the chapter anyways. incredibly annoying if you crosspost to different platforms and subsequently have to update it on each site…so I think for any future stories I’ll have one primary site to upload to and have the rest update the same thing a day or two later.

and yeah I don’t have betas or proofreaders because my update schedules are way too sporadic to give them a consistent editing schedule haha

EDIT: had to edit this post for a typo. the irony speaks for itself…

Once for basic stuff I had ignored when the writing program redlines/bluelines something. And to double check if I forgot to add something that I was going to.

Second time is after a day or a good meal to check if it even makes sense. Apply proper rules of grammar. Passively hear a machine voice speak it back for anything glaring that my own biase can't catch.

Third, paranoia once someone has had the privilege to look at it.

Depends on the story. My main one, I sleep on the chapter for a while. I reread and edit before I post.

The other, I write and post day of, because it was always meant to be a fun distraction.

Like many other authors, I’m super self-critical and a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to editing lmao. I’ll wear myself out going over it again and again, until I have to tell myself, “Dude, stop and just post it.” Otherwise, it feels like the edits will never end.

That's better than some of the crap I've been reading, where I swear they never looked over it once and just posted it, assuming Grammarly or whatever BS AI editing software they are using fixed everything.

Editing software can't do crap when you don't re read what you wrote to see if it makes sense.
