How many chapters does it take on average to start gaining steady writer?

I'm not sure. I was pretty tryhard the first two weeks, trying to write a chapter per day. But after the second week, I slowed down the pace because my vacation ended, and now I just try to be consistent.

I also uploaded the first five chapters the same day since I had just reuploaded them from Webnovel (I literally found ScribbleHub by luck since a friend told me it was like AO3)

I hope this helps :blobreading:

Writing too short chapters will turn away readers too. I don't have actual statistics for SH, but speaking for myself, I don't bother reading anything with ~1000 average words or below, and anything under 1500 I'm still hesitant.
Your experience is a lot closer to RR readers. They have to slog through the loading of heavy advertisements for every single chapter, and so they want more per chapter. However, your experience is not characteristic of Scribblehub readers. They often prefer something they can glance at on their phone during a 15-minute break, with lots of callbacks to earlier chapters and short recaps.

In my case it's a matter of immersion, and meat on the bones of the story. 1000 words is too little, the chapter ends before it can properly start, and there is no room to tell the story and paint the world in any meaningful way at the same time. Add a lot of callbacks, and there's practically nothing left for the chapter proper.

And while we're probably not the majority, I do know there is a good number of readers on SH who prefers longer chapters.

I respect your opinion. But it shouldn't be generalized, especially if you're just a casual reader.

Authors themselves write fiction and experiment with the word count that attracts readers. This experience is more valid than mere assumption.

I've personally conducted this experiment. The results? Short chapters tend to be more popular at the beginning than long ones in SH.

However, it's important to note that this only applies at the beginning. To maintain momentum and reader interest, word count alone isn't enough; maintaining the quality of the content is also crucial.

Well i did know scribble hub since long long ago. But the only attempt that kinda worked for me was when i added the genderbend tag. Which i want to believe isn't essential but damn did it work too well back then ?

Oh, I must apologize for not understanding your meaning the first time around. And another thing, I must apologize for not exactly understanding the difference between what viewers and readers are.

I have to guess that a reader is a constant reader and views only view. Do, to name, I'm unsure.

But none of that matters. Now, what I'm about to say will sound cliché, but I don't think there's a normal amount of growth. I know this isn't helpful; I just wanted to state that growth is rather complex.

And I know I've said this already, but if you're happy about your writing, then I strongly believe that even if you believe your writing is a bit boring, people will enjoy it.

But I am a mere fool; I think you're able to do it, kid. Also, The Lord of the Rings is beloved, and 90% of that book is walking and world-building.

I gotta get back to writing, but I hope this helps, even though I doubt it did. I just wasted I didn't waste your time.

It takes time. I started here late June, and it's now late October and I don't really have that much to crow about yet. If your work is good, reaches the right audience, and satisfies a popular niche here, it'll happen. Having an eye-catching cover helps too. *^^*

Dw mister, you are not a fool. A person who takes a bit of thier time to give an advice is not a fool. Hope you return for writing soon tho. Gl ^^

I was gonna start in june idk what made me procastinate till September fr ?. Idk if my work does satisfy a neich. It does have an optimistic realism fantasy mix. If anything i think my MCs are like the ones from MHA, while my world is an epic fantasy one. The most thing i am proud of is combat, it's half logical half entertaining. It's like a very neich neich idk aaaaaaaa.

I prefer the longer chapters too. The only time I touch works that have 1000 words/chaper is when they have a high release rate so I can read atleast 2 chapters at a time

Well, some of us have the point of view as a writer as our primary focus.
As you learn what readers like, sometimes you are met with huge disappointments. The EXACT SAME STORY that has a cute girl on the cover instead of a spacecraft, and has the 45 5000 word chapters split into 120 chapters, has ten times as much attention. It's just reality. Hate it or love it, you have to account for it.

The market of today is different from the market of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. A writer like Piers Anthony or Robert Heinlein would fade into obscurity or never get noticed. Our job as writers has changed... we do not tell great stories, we tell stories people can submerge themselves into and empathize with. The Lord of the Rings, if sold today, would be an absolute flop.

The trick of the new breed of writers is not to tell great stories; it is to entertain the few people left who are still capable of reading.

Yes i am trying to cope with that. My og chapters were 3000 words each. So i kinda am rewriting those ideas in small portions. Also i had one of my friends use a future character (a girl) for the cover. (Because people love women in general. Who am i to argue ??). That friend blocked me for no reason long after tho, i am suspecting that request now. (That's unrelated ig)

Hint. Right-click on your cover image in the main book page, 'open image in new tab' (in your case, https://cdn.scribblehub.com/images/91/glance-knight_1831804_1760646980.jpg), and then 'insert picture' into your sig. After you have inserted it, click it again, right-click it, and add your link to it. https://www.scribblehub.com/series/1831804/glance-knight/

You wind up with something like this:

And then reduce the size of the picture to about what I have, or the mods will hide it in a spoiler tag to avoid thread overflow. That way, every time you post a message, people can link directly to your work, especially if they like your post.
