How much words can you get out in an hour? And how much words do you get off on a good day?

Varies wildly. Have not actually tracked metrics much but the last time I did I seemed to average 800 words a day, which reflected about three hours of writing, so about 250 an hour. But I know I tend to average about 100 words a day, so about 50 an hour - and have been FAR over 250 a few times.

Decades ago, while I was doing the nanowrimo in my native tongue with author friends, I topped at 650 words in a WW (word war, it's basically a game you do during the nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) where you write as much as possible of your novel in 15 minutes)

Nowadays I don't keep track, but I think I'm at 1k w/hour in english and 1500 w/hour in french

But since I wrote 120k words this month, I think I'm way quicker when I'm inspired

Depends on how 'warmed up' my thoughts are.

On average 'non-warmed up' days, I don't write. I do research, though.

On days I start to 'warm up', 500 to 1k words all day.

On average 'warmed up' days, it is 3k to 8k. About 2k words per hour.

On days I 'explode' writing, I can go up to 15k words per one sitting.

I generally write about 1,500 words an hour and I write until I hit 3,000 words (12 manuscript pages) to keep myself writing at pulp speed, which is a million words a year. Rewriting is for chumps.

2: Fast food tier writing, legible and plot sensible. 500-1000 words ~ an hour

3: Schizophrenia induced mania, and may start echoing the words of nyarlathotep as I drift into sleep and out. 1500-2000 words ~ an hour

I'm not sure about my hourly, but on a good day I can write a 3k-4k chapter (most of my chapters are 2k-3k though, and usually take 2-3days)

It's about energy levels and focus for me.

According to trackbear, all my recent writing sessions/day have been ~4500 words. That's usually over the course of a 3~5 hours. So around 1000-1500 words/hour seems to be my pace, similar to my fellow French colleague in this thread, AmbreaTaddy

Sometimes I can go for hours just typing like crazy and then other times I get stuck every paragraph. when that happens I usually pace around my apartment or take a shower till I can figure out how to get to the next part of a scene. I'd really love to know why being able to think better in the shower is such a common thing for people?

I have the capability of writing 4k words per day, but because of writer's block and fever... 1 word per hr.
