Right, this question has been burning at the back of my mind ever since I've started diving into the realm of writing web fictions, or web novels. But how in the goddamned world can someone write soo many words in such a short amount of time?

Like, I've seen an author write 2k words a day easily and consistently mind you! The best I could do was around 1k ish words in a day. Though I did managed to write 30k words in ten days, but that's for a fan fiction and I just go and write. So how did you managed to write that fast? Did you eat your keyboards? Or did you just plan your fics well? Please enlightened this noob!

just typing isnt that hard. you can become a fast typer easily. WRITING is different. It requires creative thought and the motivation to do so. People who write and update daily probably either already have a plan or at least idea of what they want to write beforehand. People who don't have that wont be able to release chapters as often.

Me, I'm just a lazy cunt but when i devoted myself to it, I also did at least 2k word chapters daily. Sometimes twice or thrice. It's not hard to type it all up within a few hows. Storyboarding is.

For example, you can throw balls pretty fast. But just cux you can throw fast, doesn't meant you can hit a target. Writing is similar. Its typing, but with a goal.Typing fast is easy, but knowing what to type is harder. Takes more time than just typing random words as fast as you can

My story writing 'work ethic' is like this:

1) I plan my story before I even write the first chapter. (I'm a planner kind of writer)
2) Research about the theme and topics that I'm going to include in my work.
3) Get myself into 'writing mood' by avoiding distractions (playing games, watching animes, reading manga, etc.).
4) Start 'testing the waters' by forcing myself to write, and giving myself a deadline of around three weeks to one month.
5) The moment I get into my 'writing mood', I can write up to 12k words per day. (This is whole day though, I'm no superman. I need to eat, drink and sleep, too.)
6) Once I finished a volume, I would edit my work three times before publish.
7) Having the said volume done and edited, I'd take a break for a month or two.
8) Rinse and repeat.

Addendum: I would sometimes go to SH Forum to unload a fried brain (relax).

It easy to write if you know what scenario already on. the problem was how would you phrase every word, conversation, their perspective without messing it up.

In writing, you can just freestyle it while just thinking one scenario like 'walking in the park', since you know what this was you can just elaborate and explain the scene.

In making a novel, you have to consider every possible conclusion every chapter makes so that in the next one, you'll immediately know what to write next. I, for one while thinking is writing what I thought about this subject.

It maybe that they keep it in their notepad before submitting the story hence the schedule is every 1 day or they just love to spend writing and always imaginative, inspired, and motivated while staying in the quote of 1 chapter per day .

Yeah I have a hard time trying to put the things I imagined in my head into words. Words that are readable and easy to process. It's like my imagination is running on a race car speed, and my brain processor runs snail speed engine.

Yeah, I also get distracted really easily when writing. I can't write if I'm listening to songs that's upbeat or if it's too loud. But I can stand slow jazz, so that's nice.

And yes I sometimes need to force myself into writing mode, but I can't immerse myself when into writing mode when I'm not on my bed and writing on my phone. It's like my brain just work faster when I'm writing from my phone? It's really weird. I could lay down on my bed and write 4k easily, but if I go and type using my keyboard on my laptop my mind just wonders around the universe!

I can never edit my work three times in one day, I'll have to pace it and give gaps to myself if I were to edit my work three times. Like I'll leave my story to sit for a whole week and do the first edit, then let it sit down for a few days and do the second, and the third.

But usually I'll let my story sit around and continue on to the next chapter, when I've finished with the latest 10th chapter I'll go back to the first and edit it. That way I'll be able to adjust the beginning with the latest chapter.

Exactly! I'll think of one scenario but to put it into words and phrase it, making sure that my readers understand the message I'm trying to get across to them is really hard.

My biggest sins in writing are probably getting the idea for my next chapter while I'm writing the current chapter, and not writing the idea of the next chapter down, then proceeds to completely forgot the idea for the next chapter! _(:3 」∠)_

We all got our own ways of getting ourselves into the 'groove'. For comparison, I listen to Sabaton, The Hu and other rock bands when I'm writing, all the while singing the lyrics.

That's your comfort zone, I guess. Mine would either be writing on a notebook, or typing away on a keyboard, but mostly it's the notebook to get myself into 'writing mode'.

Nah. I didn't make it clear that I do my edits AFTER I wrote the entire manuscript, which takes weeks. One (first) is for grammar, punctuations and spelling. One (second) is for sentence construction and more complicated edits, like scene flows and chapter narratives, and the last (third) is for polishing.

The editing process also takes days, and involves some input from my beta readers (my brother and one of my friends online).
But usually I'll let my story sit around and continue on to the next chapter, when I've finished with the latest 10th chapter I'll go back to the first and edit it. That way I'll be able to adjust the beginning with the latest chapter.
For this part, if in any case, I got distracted, I'll start getting into the 'groove' by rereading past chapters and editing a little. After that, I'll head straight to writing new chapters, and before I knew it, it's already time to snooze. And I wrote an impenetrable wall of text.

Get really fucking wasted (or drunk).

Not sleeping for a few days might do the trick, too, if those two are not available to you.

consistency and discipline are what you should have first. if you can't handle doing the same thing every day, there's no way you can hope to reach decent productivity levels.

of course, there are ways to help with that. many people have different approaches, but this is how I do for mine:

1. Plan a roadmap. Not necessarily a hyper-detailed plotline, but a chart of plot points and locations. You jot down the aim for one particular chapter, write down the locations you're gonna visit, and have a bullet point of what you want your chapter to establish, reinforce, or achieve. Most web authors end up with hiatuses and blocks BECAUSE they don't have a plan for their stories. Not saying planning is crucial, but when you're stuck on a rut with no idea how to write, having a pre-planned roadmap helps with that a lot.

2. Write rudimentary. Don't go for sweeping sentences or intricate proses for your first draft. Go elementary. Go ham on repeated words. Your first draft is supposed to be the base of your chapter. You can leave the editing for later. Personally, I build the base as I edit, but that's because I already know what I'm gonna write, so might as well spice it up as I go. If you aren't used to the process, just go for easy words. Instead of A glint of passion shining in her pupils as she laid a longing gaze at me, you can opt for a She looked at me lovingly first. When you're out of your temporary rut, go back and spruce things up.

3. Do it every day. This isn't hyperbole. Literally, do it every day. Sit yourself down and try to hit a certain milestone, be it 100 words a day or one scene a day. Personally, I go for at least 500-600 words a day. I've been doing it for a consistent month. As for you? Start today. Right now. No excuses. You got time to read manga or jack off? Write. Taking a shit? Bring your phone with you on the throne and write. No computer around you? Get a paper and a pencil and make your draft. Depending on how much you value your craft, dedicate at least 30 minutes or an hour of your day JUST to write. You want to hammer that practice deep into your skull until doing it feels like second nature. That's how most professionals get by.

but what do i know? I'm just some guy on the internet who loves nipples and sucks off dogs, do take my advice with the biggest grain of salt you could find.

Chinese web authors can write 20K words per day. Chew on that.
chinese characters work under different vocabularies and rules. technically for them, each alphabet counts as a literal word for them. the only spacing they do is between sentences. many of our words can be considered a phrase to them. hell, an idiom that takes 3 words for english can take 6 characters if translated to mandarin.

plus, I wouldn't hold MOST Chinese web authors in high regard.

I wrote 2k words or less before and now upgraded to 5k+ (though I don’t update frequently) and I’d say it’s all about how you want to grow as an author. Some authors are better suited for short chapters but some enjoy writing long ones. Personally I like long ones and so do my readers so I’ll continue doing exactly that

well i just think of a scene and describe the actions. Like im watching a movie. I just write down what the people are doing or saying, barebones, and add details later. Scripts are done in a similar way. Its a bit harder when there arent people in the scene, tho.

Like if I'm describing an area or when something big happens and i have to describe how the rest of the world is reacting to it. That requires a bt of jumping around. Several POV changes in succession. sometimes.

If I have a story planned out beforehand, I can pretty much just keep on writing—doesn’t matter how many word count I can produce, I can even keep writing all day and only stop when I’m tired.

But like I said: I can only do that if I’m in the mood and have things planned out beforehand—so that I don’t have to face any bumps along the road.

But now, since I don’t plan at all and choose to walk the path of a true pantser; I’m very delighted to say that I’ve pretty much converted myself into a true procrastinator, thank you very much~
———

Oh? What’s that? The tips to write faster?

Ahem, here we go: plan out beforehand—the more details, the easier time you’ll have when you write. Get in the zone—try to read or watch something you like until you feel the sudden urge to write. Lastly, just have fun!
