How do you write fighting scenes?

I'm a lot older than I seem. ;) I've experimented and experienced many, many things. Every bit of it enriches my work.

Nope. There are far too many embarrassing mistakes in my life that I want to forget about. I was very hot tempered when I was younger.

Besides, the only memoirs a publisher will touch are those belonging to Famous people. No one cares about the life of a trashy romance writer.
Well, I didn't think Americans were stupid enough to read "Hillbilly Elegy" either and...well, there you go. *^^*

Just because that author was idiot enough to publicly expose their stupidity doesn't mean I have to.

Depends onf the fight scene. Sometimes its kinda comedic, focusing on timing and a kinda slapsticky description of action. That tends to have a lot of one-liners (whether dialogue or just sentences on their own), and doesnt last too long so it wont wear out its welcome.

Sometimes its more focused on showcasing the characters abilities nad how the fights go. Those get more description of the actual actions and imagery, trying to paint a good image in the readers mind. Those often benefit from internal monologue and body language to show emotion and break up actions themselves. The movements need to be described concisely but clearly, if you're going for this type of thing. I am to understand that these types of scenes are somewhat less popular, most people prefer action that focuses more on the characters emotions, but honestly these are my favorite kind personally.

And lastly the most popular type, where its showcasing the characters emotions using the battle as a crucible. These benefit from very verbose and descriptive language that gives a strong sense of 'vibe', imo. Also, internal monologuing, banter between combatants to showcase their emotional states (Are they angry? Calm? Just focused and murderous? Or maybe cocky and enjoying themselves?). One nice thing here is to use characters actions to show their emotions. A character who is filled with rage will be more aggressive and constantly on the offensive, someone whose calm and collected might be more defensive, someone who is cocky might move with exaggerated swagger. Etc.

I mostly try to imagine the scene in my head first and try my best to make it more hard for our mc, like how can I make him lose... Something like that. Though fight scenes are not my speciality or experience with, but this is how I mostly try writing it for the first time and then again and again by adding or removing things. It's just connect two dot (i.e. start and conclusion), and how you connect it is what would make it more appealing to the reader, try not giving what they want until they desperately want it and then boom... Just my mumbling...
Hope it would be helpful
