How do you post a re-edited chapter?

Greetings fellow authors and readers alike.

I've been re-editing some chapters of my novel and I was wondering, How do I post it?

I mean, Do you just change your old chapter for the new? Do you tell everyone 'Hey, I changed a lot of stuff and now it's cooler? What's the correct way?

I'm asking since I changed some of the very first chapters I've written, I think I have come a long way since then but I don't see other authors re-editing their stuff often.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Just updated the old one. If you didn't inform your reader, they might not even know you edit your old chapters.
Thanks! Maybe that's the reason I never saw anyone updating theirs.

It's not a stupid question, it's valid

I update my chapters all the time, if its a major change ill let readers know through an author note but otherwise I just silently edit them for future readers to enjoy ;)

Just out with the old, in with the new.
Or, if you cardinally change the story, do a rewrite

Best course of action is to notify your readers about your changes, especially if it's major ones, and specify your reasons so that they won't get confused if ever some details in your later chapters appeared that has a connection to your changes in the earlier ones. If they reread it, good. If they don't, well, it's okay as well.

Or take another example from one of SH's well-known users, @Assurbanipal_II. He rewrote his entire series and notified his readers about his progress through a series of 'temporary chapter/announcements'. His method worked, and he still keeps on writing his series.

Thanks for the tips! Actually, my readers are only a handful and the re-editing was minor, I mean, I changed a LOT but the plot, actions, and the original idea are the same, what I changed is the words that now are more elegant, but the story is still the same.

Ah, indeed it's minor revision.

Nevertheless, it'd be better to still notify your readers and explain the changes. ?

You could delete the old chapter, and post the new one in place of the old

Either do it like me
"[Chapter 1] The transferred State {3rd Edn}"

Or
"[Chapter 1] The transferred State {edited 23 Mar 2020}"

I even got a changelog to inform what changed in each edition
