How do you organize your characters and ideas?

You guys organize your stuff???

My organized stuff is disorganized in a bunch of folders that I back up and accidentally delete. Then I create more files about things that I've already written, but different because I changed things. So, when I check a name of a character, I accidentally get the name I chose for them in the past and not the current one.
