So you reach down deep.

You write that chapter. That special one. The one where your MC is in tears. But you can't just put him in tears. You need the reader to FEEL that pain. So you dig deep. You find that pain. You drag it out. You tear it out of your chest and you show it to the world. You stare at it. You describe it. You turn that pain into words so cold they burn your fingers as you type. You feel the tears roll down your cheeks and know you wrote it well.

You finish the chapter.

How do you come back from that?

It didn't happen, so there is no reason to have prolonged periods of sadness. Cry when Ai-chan writes, wipe the snot and tears and then eat biscuits. Such sadness does not last long as the events are fabricated. It could be based on real life experience, but ultimately, it's not real. Maybe it's just because Ai-chan used to be schizophrenic, but Ai-chan learned to not be bothered by unreal things.

Carefully.

Personally, I can't even write those sorts of things unless something like that is already going on in my life. Thus, writing releases those emotions for me. I sleep well after releasing those emotions on the page.

I can’t write emotion. I’m too much of a FED.

Do people actually feel so sad they can't come back from it? The longest I've been sad was a minute or so.

?

(as far as I know) I've never injected any real internal sadness or pain into my writing. What I can do though, like a trained actor, is try my hardest to FAKE being sad or in pain to guage how well those feelings are translating into what's being written in the moment ?.

Since it's a "fake epic prank bro" ??? emotion, I come back from if instantly ?.

When you push half a century, the ability to just shrug off horror gets harder and harder to pull off.
