I didn't read the novels but I watched anime and read the manhua.
Ultimate Scheming System's manhua was good for time pass, and I think it got popular only because it was one of the first Chinese system manhua along with I am an evil god. But yes the story is trash . And although I also didn't really liked this I am an evil god manhua it was good in comparison to the former.

Sometimes I feel that my writing skills are really bad and I won't be able to write good stories...then I see these

In Another World With My Smartphone

I Opened A Cafe In Another World (https://manganato.com/manga-ca979709?origin=serp_auto)

Isekai Cheat Magician.(https://www.novelupdates.com/series/isekai-cheat-magician/?origin=serp_auto)

Ultimate scheaming system (https://novelbin.org/novelbin/ultimate-scheming-system?origin=serp_auto )

How the hell do these trash story even get popular???!!!
1) No other competitor (at that time), its like hotdog in a world without hambugers/bigmac
2) Timeliness. Some stuff are good depending on the timeperiod. I mean, some jokes works in the past but not now anymore. Or old vgames (Tetris etc)
3) For JP works, one big thing = ANIMES. Even the trashiest stuff can be popular if they get anime adap.

Edit (1) : To quote words of a angry rant about readers-quality&industry from a CNauthor : "If some masterpieces in the past were published now, they would flop so hard or not so popular"

Different markets... maybe if you write your story in japanese or chinese it will become really popular in those country sites.
But you better hope they don't find out you are not Chinese. Maybe the Japanese don't care much, but the Chinese... bruh.

It's not that they became popular, those are formulatic b-tier novels made to capitalize on trends. They were created to be popular. Also internet influencers. All those anime, manga, and LN youtubers play major role in shaping up terrible taste, hyping up or praising trash.

Can't believe that these works were released more than a decade ago.
Anyway, I think most people who write works like these weren't really expecting to make some kind of masterpiece or get a Pulitzer award.
It's just that they posted it, and many people read them, many dropped it, many continued.

How good is the Waifu is a big thing in some circles.
And yet it doesn't matter because some people leave if the Waifu is poorly written, and some leave if they are written well

Doesn't matter if the story is good or bad. That stuff is subjective. All that matters is that it's entertaining through all the other factors, being characters, conversations, events, and so on.

In the world of entertainment fiction, it is not correct to classify things as objectively good or objectively bad, what matters is provoking strong emotions in readers.
Those bad isekai that you are citing are famous because the readers of those works feel pleasant emotions reading them.
readers of other genres look for other types of emotions.

Wish fulfilment I guess that's what attracted people towards it , realism isn't very appealing in general since let's admit it reality is harsh and boring people always want to escape to another world and have a easy life
Plus FBI can't arrest you for marrying a underage loli in another world

Me when dopamine rush designed stories, where plot holes are as common as characters, but people are too busy getting their weekly/monthly dopamine rush from a fight scene

Pretty much the reason why smutty Harlequin romances sell so well. Because there's a big market for easily digestible, lowbrow 'popcorn reading'. The kind when you can just turn off your brain and inject wish fulfillment directly into your veins.

These get popular for the same reason I think people enjoy trash entertainment of any medium. Sometimes you don't want to think, you just want to sit down with something stupid, something comfortable that won't stress you out, or illicit any strong emotions. These kinds of things allow you to tune out because there are no kinds of stakes worthy of your full focus. Junk food for the mind.
