How do readers feel about AI art between the pages of a story?

Your cover/art is the first glance a reader will have at your work, and while you can say you don't use it to write, using it for other things will build distrust with your audience.

If you have aspirations of going beyond webnovels, it'll be a detriment where avid readers are actively boycotting books that use AI in any part of the publication process. Generally, most readers expect to only find text in the chapters. There's really no net benefit to using it.

I've found it useful when visualizing my characters while writing, but don't share it generally, worried about the response I'll get. I guess I'm really nervous about torches and pitchforks.

I'm writing a slice of life series. I want to include a lot of art for every chapter, including some vignettes. It needs to be a selling point. Obviously not the selling point, but something that adds to the draw to come back for more. The prose is the most important thing, clearly.
I'll be upfront that if I saw that many images with AI art, I'd drop the story immediately. I'd rather see rough sketches than AI art, but for webnovels I'd prefer just reading text far more than either of those. A picture says a thousand words, but a good author can say them better.
