How come we see the number of people who dropped the story.

The drop system can be rigged too. Someone can add and drop your work serveral times

Technically you only see the number of people who added your story to a reading list so they could filter it out of searches. Oh, also so they could rate it.

The number of people who actually dropped your story is probably much higher. :)

The number of people who actually dropped your story is probably much higher. :)
I have a specific reading last made so I can drop a 1 star and delete it from my reading lists after dropping because I'd rather forget it exists

Exactly this. The "dropped" statistic refers to people who created a custom reading list with the "dropped" category as it's header, and then added your story to that list.

People who just remove your story from their reading list don't register as "dropped."
